10 Things to Do in Kent This February Half Term


The winter weather is starting to ebb and half term is already upon us. There are lots of amazing things going on across Kent this half term to keep you and your children active!

Here are our 10 top picks of events happening in Kent this half term:

1) Kent and East Sussex Railway 

Be a Nature Detective this February Half Term 2024! Jump aboard a steam train and travel through the beautiful countryside to Rother Valley. With free bird themed activities on-board, become a Nature Expert as you spot all the local wildlife. Why not break up your journey at Bodiam & visit the National Trust Castle - a short walk from the station. If you're not a National Trust member, show your train ticket to receive a discount on admission to the castle. 

When? 10th-18th February 2024 (ex Monday and Friday)

2) Kids go FREE at Howletts Wild Animal Park

This half term, young conservationists can visit Howletts for FREE! Learn all about how Howletts are helping and supporting endangered animals and get up close and personal with some of these mighty creatures. With over 390 animals and the largest herd of African elephants in the UK, Howletts would make a great day out for the family.

When? 10th-18th February 2024 

Price: Adults £25, Children (3-15) Free.

3) The Whitstable Castle and Gardens

Located close to the seafront, Whitstable Castle and Gardens have a history dating back to the early 1400s. With picturesque views both inside and outside of the castle, this will make a great day out. 

During half term, the castle is running a Fairy Scavenger Hunt! Pick up a trial sheet and follow the clues around the gardens. There will also be Fairy Craft Workshops running to create some beautiful artwork.

When? 12th-16th February 2024 11am-3pm

Price: Entry is free. Event costs £3.50 per child (including trail sheet sweet treat and fairy craft pack) 

4) Chatham Chinese New Year Festival

Celebrate the year of the dragon by visiting Chatham's Chinese Festival taking place in Chatham High Street. This free event will see a traditional parade with brilliant puppets and street performers, martial arts workshops, dance performances and a whole wealth of Asian street foods will be sold by local businesses.

When? 17th February 2024 11am-3pm

5) Leeds Castle 

This half term, help Mr Borrett, the castle's Head Butler, find the mislaid items and set up the dinner table for Lady Baillie’s banquet. It is a race against time and only you can help! Magic shows and games will be sure to capture the hearts and minds of adults and children alike. 

Once you have saved the day, take a stroll around the grounds, get lost in the maze or go and visit the falconry.

When? 10th-18th February 2024

6) Kent Wildlife Trust

Romney Marsh, Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve and Tyland Barn have a range of workshops and activities happening over the half term. Whether you want to have a go at bird spotting, creating a bird feeder or complete the February Heart Trail, the Wilflife Trust have got you covered. Try one or all of the events and learn about our local wildlife with your young ones.

When? 10th-18th February 2024

Price: Event dependant. All events cost between £4 and £10 per person/activity.

7) Trosley Country Park

Learn how to survive in the woods with the Woodlands Survival Skills workshop. This hour and a half session will teach you all about the 3 things you need to survive: shelter, warmth and tools. 

Alternatively, take a walk on the Half Term Trail learning all about dragons to celebrate the Chinese New Year! 

Maybe you are more of a nature lover? Why not learn how to Build a Bird Box this half term? Encourage some nature into your gardens and watch the birds visit through the spring. 

Does your child like jumping in puddles and getting covered in mud? Let them thoroughly cake themselves at the Love Mud event on Valentine's Day. Cook a romantic mud feast in the mud kitchen and enjoy a chocolatey treat around the campfire.

8) Maidstone Museum

It's all about the Egyptians in Maidstone Museum this half term. Take your little ones to learn about history and create some crafts this half term. Make your own Egyptian Headdress, puppet or pyramid while gaining some brilliant facts to impress friends and family. 

If your child has a special need, Maidstone Museum offer a quieter more open ended activity session on Friday 16 February.

When? 13th-15th February 2024 10.30am-2.30pm

Price: £3.50 per child per session.

9) Hazlitt Theatre 

The Oink-tastic musical - The Three Little Pigs- is running in February Half Term. With songs to groove to and plenty of good ole fashioned audience participation, it is the show to see this half term. Oh no it's not! Oh yes it is!

10) Comedy Club 4 Kids

Finally, if you are looking for a family friendly event to tickle that funny bone, visit The Alex in Faversham. Comedy Club 4 Kids is exactly what it says on the tin. Like a normal comedy club, but aimed at children this event will be sure to get a giggle.

If you have a budding comedian, they also offer Zoom Comedy Workshops.
