Outdoor Learning Assistant

The Role

King’s Reach is forming a new college.  This will give students that are unable to attend other colleges a chance to complete Entry and Level 1 qualifications that will assist in them following their next steps.

We are looking for a compassionate, energetic Outdoor Learning Assistant to join our Post‑16 outdoor learning course. This is a unique opportunity to support young people as they develop confidence, independence, and practical skills through a blend of Functional Skills Maths and English and Entry Level and Level 1 Conservation qualifications delivered in a woodland environment.

Our learners thrive when education feels hands‑on, meaningful, and connected to nature. If you enjoy being outdoors, believe in experiential learning, and want to make a real difference to young people’s futures, this role will suit you beautifully.

  • Assist in the delivery of Entry Level and level 1 Conservation and land‑based activities, helping students gain practical skills and confidence.
  • Support learners aged 16+ in developing Functional Skills in Maths and English, working closely with teaching staff to reinforce learning.
  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support, adapting approaches to meet a range of learning needs.
  • Encourage positive engagement, emotional well‑being, and resilience through nature‑based learning.
  • Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive woodland environment.
  • Contribute to planning, reflection, and assessment by sharing observations and supporting learner progress.
  • Model positive communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving in an outdoor setting.
  • Completing course administration as required.
  • Can build trust with young people who may have experienced rejection or trauma
  • Is patient, calm, and able to listen without judgement
  • Is not afraid to challenge behaviours in a nurturing and supportive way to achieve progression
  • Believes every young person has potential and can be the 'You Can' when the young people cannot see their own potential
  • Has experience working with young people (aged 16+) in education, youth work, social care, or similar settings
  • Can work flexibly as student individual needs can fluctuate
  • Has strong communication, organisation, and teamwork skills
  • Understands safeguarding and the importance of keeping young people safe
  • Is resilient and self-motivated to make a real difference
  • A role where your support genuinely changes young people’s lives
  • Ongoing training and professional development, this position can help you grow personally
  • A caring, values-led team that supports and encourages one another
  • A chance to be part of something bigger, giving young people time to heal, grow, and build a better future

Information about the school

King's Reach is a unique community; an authentic family where we do not limit how we educate our young people. Our approach and philosophy is firmly rooted in the principals of trauma informed practices, and through unconditional child-centred relationships, we seek to understand every young person’s story and unlock their unidentified aspirations, passions and innate potential. We nurture these by working with humility, warmth, love and integrity to inspire a belief in all our young people that they CAN achieve, grow and reach their potential despite their past experiences or starting points. We are a small school that is looking to grow and affect more young peoples lives. To do this we need to grow our staffing team.
