School Description

The Oaks Infant School ‘Where we are inspired’

Our Ethos: We are passionate about education and our ethos embodies child-led learning in their early years. We ensure that deep learning happens through play, investigation and exploration, moving to increased levels of structure in line with the developing mind. Adults are model learners and challenge themselves to continually develop their own practice and provision through self-reflection, research, collaboration and innovation. Both adults and pupils are conscientious and considered risk takers. Staff build extremely positive relationships with children and their families which scaffolds learning further and enables children to be self-assured individuals.

Our Vision: Our aim is to ensure that every child and adult realises their potential. Our curriculum will continue to be rich and will nurture every child’s self-esteem, well Being and interests, building the cultural capital they need to become successful citizens in the wider, diverse world. It enables them to explore, embed and develop expertise in a set of skills and knowledge which have been carefully designed to meet their unique needs. Children will have securely embedded behaviour expectations enabling them to always be respectful, kind and hard working. Children are prepared for their next stage of education and collaborative working means that this transition is seamless. As a result, children and adults are confident, Emotionally resilient, content, independent, inspired, self-motivated, life-long learners.

The Oaks Infant School can be found on the southern outskirts of Sittingbourne, Kent. We are a three-form entry school with 9 classes for 270 children in years R, 1 and 2 plus a wonderful Nursery. Attached to the school is The Acorn Centre, a specially resourced provision who cater for children with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) for Speech and Language Delays or Disorders. We have up to 12 children in this specialist unit who each have a bespoke program of integration into the main school. The school is set in attractive grounds with many mature trees which attract an abundance of wildlife. We are able to use the school grounds to take learning out into the environment providing an ambitious, broad and enriching experience for the children.

We are proud to be part of Our Community Multi Academy Trust which enables us to work in partnership with our receiver school Minterne Junior School as well as Bredgar CEP School, Borden CEP School, Lydd Primary School, Selling CEP School, Milstead and Frinsted CEP School, Dymchurch Primary School, Petham Primary School and Lynsted and Norton Primary School.

We had a very positive Ofsted visit (November 2021) and the report can be found on our website. As Ofsted recognised, we pride ourselves on our kind, warm ethos and our strong team who are dedicated to providing the best possible educational experience for every child.

We are committed to Safeguarding and all appointments and visits will be made with safeguarding procedures as our key priority. All staff will be fully inducted, including Safeguarding training and will be subject to a full DBS check and collection of references before interview.

All posts are subject to 2x satisfactory references in line with KCSIE, one of which must be your most recent employer and/or most recent childcare setting and an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service. We may also seek references before interview.
