Job Title:  Learning and Development Coach

Location: Maidstone, Kent

Salary:  £26-29k actual per year

Contract: Full time, 40 weeks per year

Do you believe you can help guide and support a young person to thrive?  Are you able to be resilient when others would give up?

KCC commissions King's Reach to support male students, with complex needs, when all other settings, for a variety of reasons, have been unable to meet need. We provide a fresh start and a real opportunity to transform their lives through tailored, meaningful academic and personal development education.

About Us

King’s Reach is a charity with over 20 years of experience supporting young people who others often find hard to reach. As a Christian Ethos charity our work is built on hope, love, and practical transformation. At the heart of our work is our Future Me programme—a unique approach that helps young people grow in confidence, gain life skills, and move towards independence.

The Role

A Learning and Development Coach plays a vital role in designing and delivering a broad range of learning experiences tailored to each young person’s interests, strengths, and needs. By combining personalised planning with hands-on teaching, they help students explore subjects that engage them while expanding their awareness of future opportunities in education, employment, and life. This role is both supportive and aspirational, aiming to unlock each learner’s potential through meaningful, interest-led education.

You will:

  • Work 1-1 with male students, planning and delivering sessions including our ‘Future Me’ Personal development programme.
  • Support young people to reconnect with trusted adults, engage in learning, and able to play an active part of a community
  • Work closely with families, specialist support teams and professionals to support the young person’s progress
  • Create flexible plans that help students move forward at their own pace
  • Keep accurate records, track progress, and advocate for the student
  • Be a consistent, calm and reliable presence in their lives—someone who doesn’t give up

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Can build trust with young people who may have experienced rejection or trauma
  • Is patient, calm, and able to listen without judgement
  • Is not afraid to challenge behaviours in a nurturing and supportive way.
  • Believes every young person has potential and can be the 'You Can' when the young person is not able to see their own potential
  • Has experience working with young people (aged 11–18+) in education, youth work, social care, or similar settings
  • Can work flexibly and travel around Kent as required
  • Has strong communication, organisation, and teamwork skills
  • Understands safeguarding and the importance of keeping young people safe
  • Is resilient and self-motivated to make a real difference, able to not take things personally

What You’ll Receive:

  • A role where your support genuinely changes young people’s lives
  • A role where you can grow as an individual
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • A caring, values-led team that supports and encourages one another
  • A chance to be part of something bigger—giving young people time to heal, grow, and build a better future

Information about the school

King's Reach is a unique community; an authentic family where we do not limit how we educate our young people. Our approach and philosophy is firmly rooted in the principals of trauma informed practices, and through unconditional child-centred relationships, we seek to understand every young person’s story and unlock their unidentified aspirations, passions and innate potential. We nurture these by working with humility, warmth, love and integrity to inspire a belief in all our young people that they CAN achieve, grow and reach their potential despite their past experiences or starting points. We are a small school that is looking to grow and affect more young peoples lives. To do this we need to grow our staffing team.
