Job Title: Food Technology Technician 
Location: Nexus School, Tonbridge 
Contract: Term-time only (39 weeks), approx. 32.5 - 35 hours per week

The Role: 
We are seeking a motivated and organised Food Technology Technician to join our dedicated team. You will support teaching staff in delivering high-quality Food Technology lessons by preparing resources, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the food room is a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare equipment, ingredients, and lesson materials for demonstrations, assessments, and practical classes. 
  • Support teachers and students during lessons, including assisting with practical work and demonstrations. 
  • Monitor, clean, test, and maintain kitchen equipment daily, arranging deeper cleans termly. 
  • Manage stock and inventory, including ordering consumables within budget, receiving deliveries, and rotating perishable goods. 
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, food hygiene, COSHH regulations, and allergen labelling requirements. 
  • Liaise with external maintenance and repair services when needed. 
  • Assist in creating displays of student work and support school events such as open evenings. 
  • Contribute to risk assessments and support wider school initiatives in line with our safeguarding and health & safety ethos. 

The Person: 

We are looking for someone who: 

  • Has GCSE English & Maths (or equivalent) and a Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety qualification (or willingness to undertake training). 
  • Has experience in a food preparation environment, ideally supporting practical lessons. 
  • Is highly organised, reliable, and calm under pressure. 
  • Possesses strong communication skills, ICT literacy, and excellent attention to detail. 
  • Shares our passion for student wellbeing, safeguarding, and inclusive education.
