Shopping in Maidstone is very convenient with well-known high street shops and fashion brands, as well as a shopping centre, Lidl and a few superstores across the river, all within walking distance. There are lovely cafes for a spot of lunch or tea and cake. Later in the evening you will find some great places to eat from Japanese food and Italian to Nepalese and Thai restaurants. Venturing further out will reward you with fine dining establishments and village pubs.
The River Medway runs through Maidstone town and provides a short picturesque walk to Allington Lock or a 5 hour long walk to Tonbridge with river wildlife and scenic views. For proper country walks head to the Kent Downs nearby which is an Area of Natural Beauty. Not far from the town centre is Mote Park, previously a 180 hectare country estate, which has beautiful grounds, sports pitches, a miniature railway, pitch and putt golf course and a boating lake. The Maidstone Leisure Centre based in the park has great facilities and activities for adults and kids.
