Weald Community Primary School is a small primary school for pupils aged five to eleven years. We are situated in Weald Village in an idyllic and picturesque setting adjacent to the village green and the school has a rich history dating back to 1892.

The school site benefits from a MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area), which creates additional playground space and excellent facilities for the development of sport within the school. The “Jungle Gym” play area is popular with all age groups. The school has developed its outdoor learning environment and the children particularly enjoy participating in Forest School activities and learning.

At Weald C. P. S., the values of “respect”, “optimism” and “ambition” are held in high esteem by all members of the school community. Much emphasis is placed on the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of the children and ‘Growth Mindset’ through Character Education, PSHE and the Global Learning Programme. A key priority of the school’s Positive Behaviour Policy is the nurturing of emotional intelligence and the development of “personal responsibility” in creating a culture of consideration for others, courtesy and citizenship

Coaching and mentoring are considered important in building strong relationships between all members of the community. The development of staff middle management opportunities and the Year 6/Reception buddy system is a testament to the effectiveness of these practices.

Children are encouraged to fulfil their potential through a broad and creative curriculum that meets the needs of all pupils, develops independent and enquiry-based learning skills and offers appropriate challenges so that they might achieve the highest possible standards in all areas of their lives.

Members of staff are challenged and supported to foster skills, experience, drive and initiative to enhance the all-round development of the children. Teachers and Teaching assistants provide the impetus for accelerated progress and promote independent thinkers and resilient learners.

Parents are encouraged to involve themselves in school life and their children’s learning as much as possible. In terms of phonics, reading and writing provision, Read, Write, Inc is used throughout the school supported by the Read, Write, Inc Spelling Scheme and book bag scheme. Parental support of reading is critical to a child’s academic development.  Collaboration between home and school is promoted through a welcoming atmosphere, open channels of communication and parental trust in the professional judgement of the school staff.

The Pupil Forum is a consultative body composed of all pupils and members of staff within the school. The key findings and action points are summarised by the Headteacher and communicated to the school at pupil forum feedback assembly. Action points are incorporated into the school’s forward planning and implemented where appropriate The Pupil Forum plays a meaningful role in effecting change within the school community; children feel that their opinions are being listened to and that some of their ideas come to fruition. A children’s version of the School Improvement Plan is discussed annually at Pupil Forum meetings.

At Weald CPS, we strongly believe in the value of extra-curricular activities in helping to shape the whole child.  Through participation in sport, music, drama and dance, children develop confidence, resilience, a sense of teamwork and positive feelings stemming from progress and success. Clubs more related to the curriculum such as Science, Modern Languages, Art, Choir, Recorders and Orchestra help to extend and enrich children’s performance in these areas of school life. All the activities contained within the “Wider Curriculum” are inextricably linked to the SMSC development of the children, in particular with regard to the nurturing of a broad set of interests and inter-personal qualities.

The school owns two minibuses enabling the children to partake in a variety of enrichment activities and sport fixtures offsite.

Governors are enthusiastic in their interest and support for the school and conscientious about their roles. They aim to support all areas of school life, ensuring that the school fulfils its statutory duties. They acquire an understanding of the school’s strengths and areas for development and work alongside the Leadership team in the school’s processes of self-evaluation and school improvement in a continuing drive for outstanding teaching, which allows all pupils to achieve their potential.

Our school is rich in diversity and is proud of the inclusive and culturally vibrant environment within our school community. We promote curiosity and interest among the children in learning about different faiths and beliefs and show mutual respect and tolerance of one another.
