Stowing Primary School is a special place! It is a village school uniquely placed beside the village church in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Pupils, staff and visitors can enjoy some spectacular views of the North Downs countryside. There is a timeless feel to the Victorian frontage beside the medieval church in this quiet village. The site also includes a modern extension, as well as a good-sized field area surrounded by mature trees, with a new MUGA and space for staff parking.
It is not just the history and the beautiful location that makes this a special place to learn for our children. From the moment you enter the school, it is apparent that Stowting CE Primary School is a friendly place with happy and successful children who feel safe and take pride in their personal and academic achievements.
At Stowting, children enjoy a rich, engaging, knowledge-led curriculum that ensures excellent academic achievement and develops cultural capital. There is a dedicated team of talented staff who provide an engaging and challenging learning environment to develop children’s thirst for learning and inspire them to be the best they can possibly be. Our children thrive as they grow into adaptable, confident, resilient and independent learners with enquiring minds.
We are a Church of England school with close links to our local church and supported by the Diocese of Canterbury. Our Christian Values of Peace, Trust, Friendship, Forgiveness and Thankfulness promote humility and kindness, and our children are inspired to be courageous advocates for the world beyond Stowting.
Our Christian Vision is:
Rooted in Faith, Growing for Life
With open and enquiring minds, we have a thirst for learning and the ambition to be the best we can be. By living our Christian Values of Peace, Thankfulness, Friendship, Forgiveness and Trust, we are global citizens, setting an example and serving the world as God intends.
1 Timothy 4:12 NIV
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
St Mary’s Church
St Mary’s is a beautiful medieval church that is located right beside Stowting CE Primary School. The 13th church is open every day and visitors can enjoy the Victorian decoration and some interesting features such as the “Green Madonna” stained glass window and a contemporary oil painting- “I am the Gate”- commissioned for the church that hangs above the pulpit.
Stowting is one of six communities and churches in the Stour Downs Parish. Currently, each month there is a lay-led family service and a service of Holy Communion led by clergy. On the third Friday in the month, the community gathers for a social evening of chat, wine and nibbles in the church.
The school community come to the church for Harvest, Christingle and Easter services that are jointly led by pupils and the local clergy. St Mary’s has been used for collective worship and a resource to enhance knowledge and understanding in RE lessons.
The local clergy serve as school governors and come into school to lead collective worship. Along with a team of volunteers, they also bring the Bible to life through drama with “Open the Book” stories that the children enjoy watching and participating in.
