Hever CEP School

About The School

Please read a welcome letter from our Co-Chairs of Governors.

There has been a Church of England school at Hever since the turn of the twentieth century.  It falls within the diocese of Rochester. The school has undergone considerable expansion, including two major classroom extensions in recent times, and now boasts modern and extensive learning accommodation. The external play and learning environment has also been enhanced to a high standard with the recent addition of a purpose built shepherd’s hut. This provides excellent accommodation for intervention groups. There is a designated library and space for specific emotional and well being support for pupils. Another recent development is the redesigning of space in the school to provide a purpose built commercial kitchen for school meals. The site is adjacent to playing fields and a short walk down the footpath there is our Forest School on neighbours’ woodland.

Hever is a one form entry school serving the local area and many pupils also come from the nearby town of Edenbridge. Currently the roll is 157 with a capacity of 210 pupils aged from 4 to 11. The school is voluntary aided. The most recent Ofsted inspection took place on 22 and 23 March 2022 resulting in an Requires Improvement rating and you can find a copy of the report here.

Leadership and Management received criticism as did the wider curriculum and aspects of Early Years provision. The school, the governors and Local Authority Improvement Advisors have since made significant progress and continue to drive these areas for improvement. The report and the feedback acknowledged the many strengths of the school, pupils’ behaviour and engagement and the good teaching and learning in the core curriculum. They praised the environment and facilities and the general ethos of the school.

The school is part of a large proactive group of 30 schools that form the Sevenoaks Partnership of Primary Schools.

There is an established staff of enthusiastic professionals dedicated to high standards and bringing about school improvement. There is a designated SENCo working three days a week and a loyal and supportive team of Teaching Assistants. We have a full board of governors from a wide range of professional backgrounds and in a recent skills audit undertaken by our much valued clerk it demonstrated that all necessary skills were covered. The parent body have shown considerable loyalty and given enormous support to the school as shown in recent forums where the school and governors have agreed the strategic response to Ofsted and the improvements that have been and continue to be implemented. The PTA are a fantastically well organised group who have worked tirelessly to raise considerable sums of money through events and grants which have been used to enhance school facilities, the shepherd’s hut being the most recent triumph.

Hever presents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and visionary leader who understands the value of working collaboratively in its widest sense to achieve the best possible outcomes for pupils and their families.
