St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Crowborough, East Sussex is a one form entry voluntary aided school within the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. Our school is centrally located, in the same road as the Catholic church on Chapel Green. The town of Crowborough itself is situated at the edge of Ashdown Forest in the High Weald Area of Outstanding National Beauty. It is 7 miles south west of Royal Tunbridge Wells and 16 miles north east of Lewes. The School was set up primarily to serve the Catholic community in the parishes of Crowborough, Wadhurst with Rotherfield and Mayfield.
Everyone in the St Mary’s community (which includes: pupils, staff, parents, carers and governors) is extremely proud of our school. Our school has a friendly, nurturing and welcoming environment where we all work together to achieve the best possible outcomes. The Governing Body are invested and engaged in the overall strategic management of our school and provide effective support to the Headteacher. In school we strive every day to live out our mission statement in full to Pray, Learn, Love, Enjoy.
At our last Ofsted inspection, in January 2017, St Mary’s was judged to be “Good” with particular strengths in the curriculum offer and attitudes towards learning and behaviour. Our Diocesan inspection in December 2015 was also “Good”.
We have invested heavily in our school building over the past few years to ensure that the environment is safe, well maintained and fully equipped to aid the learning experience for all. We have 7 classrooms, group teaching spaces, one hall and an ICT room stocked with enough computers to teach a whole class at one time.
There are currently 218 pupils on roll and a high demand for places has found us oversubscribed for reception class spaces with a waiting list for most other year groups. At present 40% of our pupils are Catholic. 23 children (10.6%) are pupil premium, 20 (9.2%) have SEND, with 2 having EHCPs. We are proud of the school’s dedication to inclusivity and continue to invest in professional development to ensure quality first teaching across the school.
The Friends of St Mary’s (FSM) is an active and supportive group arranging various fundraising events which provides money to help us enhance school resources and provision.
There is an enclosed swimming pool within the grounds and currently all pupils have swimming lessons during the year. The pool is also hired out to other users to help with running costs.
St Mary’s School is held in high regard among parents and the community for the care and support given to all students, its high academic achievement gained within a very broad and enriching child centred curriculum which values the acquisition of skills for life. Staff too enjoy working at St Mary’s as the school is committed to managing a positive work/life balance and reducing unnecessary workload for the whole team.
We are seeking an inspirational leader with the skills and passion to further develop our school, support staff to provide the highest quality learning experiences for all pupils and cherish our child-centred approach.
