The Reality of School Leadership
School leadership in 2026 is challenging. We won't pretend otherwise. At Holy Trinity, we're looking for a deputy headteacher who understands that doing more with less is the reality we face, and who is committed to making every decision count.
What Defines Us
We are a community of leaders and learners built on mutual respect and professional trust. We treat each other as the adults and professionals we are. Our commitment to high standards is non-negotiable, but so is our willingness to innovate and learn from mistakes when pursuing better outcomes for our 210 children.
Time and resources are our greatest deficits. We have worked deliberately to develop systems and procedures that ensure our efforts have genuine impact. We don't do things because we've always done them – we do them because they make a measurable difference.
The Teaching Commitment
This is not a role for someone seeking to leave the classroom behind. From appointment until July 2026, there will be a 3-day per week teaching commitment in Year 6 due to current staffing.
From September 2026 onwards, there will be no classroom responsibility, but you will maintain the equivalent of two days per week in teaching across the school.
Even as headteacher, I teach. That's the reality of leading a small primary school. However, in this role, your passion for high-quality teaching and learning will directly impact all 210 children, and both you and your ideas will have the space to grow and influence practice across the school.
The Role
We need a deputy headteacher with significant experience in upper Key Stage 2 who will:
- Lead and model outstanding teaching and learning, with particular emphasis on cognitive theory and building strong foundations
- Drive continuous school improvement through personal effectiveness and by supporting colleagues to develop and succeed
- Find creative, evidence-based solutions to complex problems, even when resources are constrained
- Work as part of a reflective leadership team committed to making decisions that serve our children and families
What We're Looking For
You will be an inspirational leader who:
- Has a proven track record of impact in upper Key Stage 2
- Demonstrates professional curiosity and a commitment to continuous improvement
- Values teamwork and collaborative problem-solving
- Has a strong commitment to SEND and inclusion
- Is prepared to nurture children's curiosity, compassion and potential while preparing them for an ever-changing world
- Recognises and nurtures each individual's gifts, in line with our school vision
What We Offer
- A leadership team that values professional respect and treats you as an adult
- Systems and structures designed to use your time and expertise effectively
- Space for your ideas and innovation to influence whole-school practice
- A commitment to ensuring your workload is purposeful and impactful
- Opportunities to develop as a leader within a supportive, reflective team
- The chance to make a real difference to 210 children in a school community that values what you bring
How to Apply
If you are a committed, reflective leader with significant upper Key Stage 2 experience who thrives in a collaborative environment where professional respect and high standards matter, we would like to hear from you.
