Head of English

Salary:                        MPS + TLR2 + SEN allowance

Contract type:         Full time, permanent

We are looking for a head of department to lead and manage English Language and Literature. The successful candidate will be an experienced leader or a teacher who is ready to take the next step, with outstanding subject knowledge, well-developed pedagogy and an enthusiasm to improve teaching and learning across the school.

We are looking for a hard-working, successful, traditional teacher, who can quickly build positive relationships with young people and adults and who wants to have a transformational impact on the lives of the most disadvantaged young people.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • An ambitious, qualified teacher with experience in AP or mainstream;
  • Has the subject knowledge and leadership expertise needed to lead teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential to support a developing KS5 provision;
  • Committed to motivating learners and adults while challenging and supporting them to achieve their potential;
  • Organised, resourceful and proactive;
  • Has a desire to continually develop their own teaching and leadership skills.

This is a full-time, permanent position up to MPS + TLR2 + SEN allowance.

Information about the school

NWKAPS is an alternative provision for students who might otherwise face exclusion from mainstream school. Our small pupil numbers mean you can make a real difference to pupil’s learning and life chances once they finish school: over 96% of last year’s students successfully achieved their choice of post-16 destination. By mainstream standards, our teachers have tiny class sizes and plenty of PPA time to prepare high quality lessons. We have a sensible marking policy, three data drops a year, a behaviour policy that’s supported by an active, visible SLT, and we put student and staff wellbeing first in everything we do.

We focus on students’ learning and the quality of our teaching, with CPD, career development and instructional coaching for every teacher, lesson observations that are about improvement not judgement, and a focus on evidence-based teaching in classrooms.

Our students study GCSES as well as a range of Level 2 qualifications and vocational courses in a large, bright, well equipped school building with several purpose built spaces including a beauty salon, workshop, sensory room, and best of all for busy teachers, a coffee shop with an industry standard coffee machine.
