Advert

Required for Easter 2022 (or sooner if possible)

Our English department is a highly effective and talented team and one that is respected by all stakeholders at St John’s. We have designed our curriculum to enable students to undertake GCSE English Literature at the end of Year 10 and GCSE English Language at the end of Year 11. As an example of how successful this team is in terms of examination results, between 70% and 80% of our GCSE students have achieved a 4+ in English Literature in each of the last 3 years, with between 45% and 55% of pupils achieving a 5+. English Literature is also a very successful and popular subject at Key Stage 5. Our Value Added scores in both 2018 and 2019 were positive (no value added scores were calculated by the government for 2020) and particularly pleasing, was that, last year, a third of our A Level English Literature students achieved an A* or A grade.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, conscientious and talented Head of English who is looking to join our extremely high-performing and popular school. Ideally, the successful candidate must have a clear track record of teaching this subject across all Key Stages over a sustained period of time and of facilitating pupils to achieve outstanding results. It is envisaged that the successful applicant would consistently deliver engaging lessons and be extremely ambitious and highly motivated to support and lead our pupils. Additionally, the ability to effectively lead and motivate our dedicated team of English staff is essential, and successful experience of this nature would be highly desirable.

If you would like any further information or would like to arrange a tour of the school, please do not hesitate to get in contact with our Operations Manager, Mrs Lynn O’Neill loneill@stj.kent.sch.uk

Information about the school

St John’s is a very successful co-ed Catholic school with over 1300 students including c.300 in our Sixth Form. We have a very strong Catholic ethos and pride ourselves in being a warm and welcoming community, something that was externally recognised in our most recent Section 48 Inspection of January 2020, where we achieved ‘Outstanding Catholic School’ status. The school’s 2023 Progress 8 score of +0.33 was the sixth consecutive examination year that the school achieved a positive score on this key performance measure and a wonderful reflection of the talented and dedicated students and staff we have at the school.

This is an excellent and exciting time to join the school and be part of an enthusiastic, forward thinking and supportive team.
