Fixed contract full time post for academic year 2021 which may be extended further.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working and creative Teaching Assistant with an interest in EYFS and Key Stage 1 to join our amazing team.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for their role, will have a relentless focus on achieving the highest standards and will have a strong commitment to the inclusive, Christian ethos of the school. Previous experience with children who have special educational needs is preferable and experience of working in a school setting essential.

Purpose of job:

Support the class teacher in the teaching and welfare of children to ensure they attain the targets set under their individual educational programmes. Working with groups and individuals across a class ensuring they are being supported and challenged to be the best learner they can be.

 Essential qualities and skills

  • A willingness to uphold and promote the Christian ethos of the school
  • The ability to be flexible in working practices
  • Proven successful experience in relating to children in an education setting
  • Be able to develop positive working relationships with pupils and colleagues
  • The ability to work as a member of a team
  • Good literacy and mathematics skills up to GCSE standard
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Knowledge and understanding of the barriers to learning that pupils face.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the effects of social, economic and cultural issues that face young children.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good listening skills
  • The ability to be well organised and practical
  • The ability to diffuse conflict

Desirable qualities and skills

  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum programmes of study
  • Experience of running intervention and support groups
  • A willingness to undertake training to meet the demands of the job
  • Supporting qualifications e.g. First Aid, sports activity, SEND
  • IT skills
  • A working knowledge of supporting children with a range of SEND
