Napier Community Primary and Nursery Academy is based in the heart of Gillingham with over 600 children on roll. We have a determined vision to reach outstanding status and beyond. We are an expanding school that is part of the Kemnal Academies Trust, which is one of the largest multi-academy trusts in the south of England; with over 40 primary and secondary schools in the TKAT family.

Because of this the school is able to offer excellent CPD and training opportunities and uses a highly effective coaching/mentoring approach to develop its staff, including its senior leaders.

Napier is fully committed to developing future senior leaders and therefore offers both the NPQSL and NPQH leadership programmes. At Napier, we believe in a culture of partnering for performance and work closely with other TKAT academies and Medway schools.

We are looking for candidates who are:

- Creative, imaginative, innovative with an eye for detail
- Able to work ‘strategically’ in order to secure school improvement
- Resourceful, purposeful, resilient and well organised
- Accurate in the judgement of teaching and learning using a triangulation of evidence
- Committed to high standards of teaching, learning and classroom management
- Fully versed in the latest assessment procedures
- Up to date with all of the National Curriculum programmes of study

As the Head of School, you will have responsibility for:

  • Sharing of vision and direction with the Executive Head Teacher.
  • Accountability for the quality of teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Leadership development , (coaching and mentoring) of the SLT and MLT and monitoring of their work, (particularly in relation to their evaluations of teaching, learning and assessment)
  • Designated Safeguarding Officer.
  • Day to day running of the school.
  • Day to day management of behaviour and discipline.
  • Maintenance of classroom standards.
  • Performance Management of all teachers, excluding  NQTs.
  • Organising staff training.
  • Parental engagement.
  • Reporting to governors.
