Our visits to classrooms showed the school to be a happy place, where pupils enjoy learning and make strong progress’ (Ofsted, November 2017).

We are looking to recruit a Term time Teaching Assistant. This posts is for 30.75 hours per week (including 2 hour meetings on alternate Thursdays), 39 weeks per year (Term time plus 5 days INSET).

British Sign language Level (BSL) 1 is essential,  & Level 2 preferred.  Candidates who have Level 1 BSL must be prepared to undertake Level 2 training which will be provided by the school.  Foreland Fields School has a growing Deaf/HI provision including two specialist classrooms and a small group intervention room.  The provision is delivered by two Teachers of the Deaf and a number Teaching Assistants with BSL training.  The provision enjoys excellent support from the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service for Hearing Impairments.  Ideally candidates will also already hold or be studying towards a relevant qualification such as Supporting Teaching and Learning or Support Work in Schools (eg; CACHE; NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning). Candidates must be able to demonstrate competency linked to National Occupational Standards, and must be qualified to at least GCSE Grade C or above in both English and Maths or equivalent Level 2 Qualification so as to undertake essential record keeping.

Foreland Fields School is highly committed to improving the life chances of our pupils and students and to the raising of standards throughout the school.  We place a firm emphasis upon the knowledge and skills needed for later life.  Whilst previous experience of working in a special school is not essential, knowledge and experience of the issues faced by children with special educational needs or disabilities will be a distinct advantage. Due to the high level of need of some pupils, responsibilities will include intimate personal care, feeding pupils where necessary (including by gastric tube with relevant training) and administration of medication (subject to training).

We encourage all of our employees to further their career development and we respect initiative and ambition. We are committed to performance management, staff training and coaching.

The successful candidate will embrace the special ethos of the School, and the role will provide an opportunity to take Foreland Fields School into this next exciting phase and beyond.
