Are you an Inspirational Head of School?

We are on an exciting phase of our development, having joined Barnsole Primary Trust in October 2017. We are also expanding to three forms of entry. The Trustees and Local Governing Board are seeking an inspirational and passionate leader to build upon the excellent foundations the previous Head of School has built.

The Trust is made up of Barnsole Primary School (Outstanding – March 2016) and Danecourt Special School (Outstanding – October 2012). Each school within the Trust retains its own distinctive ethos; the schools work closely to ensure best practice and provision for the children within. In recruiting a Head of School, we are seeking someone to help shape and share our values, vision and ethos. By working together, we want to ensure that Bligh Primary School enables every child to reach their potential so that they are well prepared to thrive in the next stage of their education.

You will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Headteacher and our energetic Senior Leadership Team, to support us in achieving the very best for the children at Bligh.

Our children and staff want a Head of School who:

  • is an inspirational leader with a track record of improving outcomes for children;
  • has a demonstrable commitment to excellence and continues to build on Bligh’s successes;
  • is approachable and values, encourages and nurtures the development of all school staff;
  • has empathy with the staff and helps them to strike a good work-life balance;
  • leads by example and goes the ‘extra mile’ for the staff and children;
  • exhibits and encourages best practice in the classroom;
  • believes in providing a rounded education of pupils through sport, the arts and other activities;
  • has high expectations of themselves and others; and
  • fosters close links between home, school and the local community and has a genuinely inclusive approach.

 We can offer you

  • an exciting opportunity to lead our progressive and successful school with a well-resourced teaching environment;
  • the opportunity to work with highly-motivated, energetic and committed staff and children;
  • a supportive and focused Governing Board and Board of Trustees;
  • a supportive and innovative network of primary schools within the Trust;
  • a dynamic and supportive Executive and Senior Leadership Team;
  • opportunities for career development;
  • a 100% focus on improving outcomes for all our pupils; and
  • a vibrant and fun place to work.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged. Please contact Helen Rixon on the above telephone number to arrange a visit with the Executive Headteacher or Chief Executive Officer.

The closing date for applications is 12:00 on Monday 30th April 2018. Short listed candidates will be invited for interview on Thursday 3rd May.

Information about the school

Bligh Primary School forms part of the Maritime Academy Trust, a multi-academy trust that is committed to making sure that education is meaningful.

Our Trust is made up of 11 primary schools located in Greenwich, Bexley and Kent. Though our schools may be different with their own in-school culture and community spirit, they all work harmoniously and collaboratively together within a curriculum that ensures each and every child is being equipped with leadership and life skills. At Maritime, we do this by empowering schools to drive more meaningful and enjoyable outcomes for children by having great people working for us, who commit to working hard to make an impact whatever the school and whatever the role.

We are thriving two form entry school which has been selected by the DFE to ‘grow’ to a three form entry school due to its good and outstanding statuses. By 2023 Bligh Primary will be a full three form entry school.

Our key objective at Bligh Primary School is to equip all our children with the key skills of communication and collaboration as well as being community minded. We expect all our adults to provide the children with first hand experiences, knowledge and the necessary skills to articulate what they have learnt in a clear and informative way. This is developed through our clear teaching and learning focus on communication, community and collaboration.

Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We welcome and celebrate differences within our school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by our HEART values. Bligh is a school with HEART. Honesty, Empathy, Achievement, Resilience and Teamwork. We believe that these personal characteristics are essential in forming positive adult lives.

Our community is an essential part of the curriculum, which is why we chose to focus on using the surrounding local area to deepen the children’s understanding, making them experts of their locality throughout their learning journey.

Children leave Bligh with a sense of belonging, the ability to work independently, in pairs or as part of a team in collaboration. They can communicate effectively what they have learnt, gather a wealth of knowledge and skills through all areas of the curriculum. They have a clear understanding and knowledge of the community around them, their place within it and the opportunities it presents.

Maritime Academy Trust embraces diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
