We require a Teaching Assistant for 27.50 hrs per week to support the learning of pupils in our EYFS class, although you may be required to work across other classes on occasion. Previous experience of working with children in a learning support capacity, voluntary work included, is essential. The person we are looking for to join our close-knit team needs to be resourceful, flexible, and able to take the initiative with a positive approach to school life and a good sense of humour. You will provide support for the children in their educational, physical, emotional and social development, and play an active role alongside our teachers in shaping the learning of our pupils. Good standards of Literacy and mathematics are essential, at least to GCSE level.

We are a Church of England School and the candidate would have an understanding of the spiritual aspect that this offers to our pupils. You would also be required to undertake a daily half hour lunch duty and assist with 3 breakfast club sessions, both paid at KR2. We are a community-centred school where everyone is valued as an active member of our team and we run many additional events outside of the usual curriculum. A willingness to join such events from time to time is highly valued in a small school such as ours. Chilham St. Mary's offers a special genuine family oriented environment and we all work very closely together. We need a special person to join our team and we hope that it is you! We would welcome visits from interested potential candidates to our school. Please telephone our Office Manager, Melanie Woodland on 01227 730442 to make an appointment.

Chilham St Mary's Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and check against the ISA Barred List For Children.

Information about the school

Chilham St. Mary's is a friendly school with a real family atmosphere located in the heart of our historic village. Each child is valued as unique and filled with potential which we seek to nurture and encourage.

We are a small school with 4 classes of wonderful, hardworking children led by a dedicated team of education professionals. We are housed in five beautiful buildings on one site, two of which are Victorian and one dates back to the Tudor era.

We have strong and supportive links with the local community and the church, and we pride ourselves on our strong christian vision and values. The school plays a role in the village Remembrance Service in November and the lighting of the Christmas Tree in the Village Square each December.

We embrace small community rural living with visits to our local fire station and regular visits to the mobile library. We have regular forest school sessions enabling our children to access the curriculum in new and exciting ways. Our Year 6 children take part in a hugely enjoyable residential trip each year and also take part in the annual Cathedral Day organised by the Diocese of Canterbury.

Chilham St Mary’s has a vibrant P.T.A. that organise events and activities throughout the year. The school is also an associate member of the CARE collaboration family of schools.
