We are looking for an excellent primary practitioner with a passion to inspire learning in the lives of our children. At present this is a full time post, however a part time position would also be considered.

Cheriton is a successful school on the edge of Folkestone.

The school prides itself on its strong community links, partnership with parents, caring environment and high academic expectations.

The school community is very diverse and we have close links with the local Army Garrison which is home to the Royal Gurkha Rifles.

The successful applicant will be building on strong foundations laid by the existing SENCo and will be a member of the school leadership team.

All we ask is that you have imagination, flair and the desire to contribute and “make a difference” to the lives of our children.

For further information about the post or to arrange a visit to the school please contact the school office.

Applicants new to the post of SENCo would be expected to complete “The National Award for Special Educational Needs Qualification” and be expected to have an enhanced CRB check inline with the safeguarding policy operated by the school.

Information about the school

Cheriton Primary School, a two form entry school, is situated on the outskirts of Folkestone. The school serves a diverse community including an army barracks which is home to the 2nd Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles alongside children who come to our school from across the Folkestone district.

As a member of the co operative movement (The Vicus Trust) we hold the values of self help, self responsibility, democracy, equality & solidarity at the centre of all we do in school.

The staff at the school work hard to ensure that the children make great progress but also that the children always have something on the horizon to look forward to, they are committed to developing a passion for learning in every child who attends the school.

The school was inspected in October 2019 and judged to be a continuing good school with many outstanding aspects with the inspectors celebrating the diverse nature of the school, strong parent and community links and a wide and stimulating curriculum. The inspector commented that "this is a school where children do really come first."

On a weekly basis it is common to have a large number of parent volunteers working in the school, adult learning classes on site, international tea afternoons, a Brownie pack using the school facilities as well as sports, arts and cultural activities for the children in school.

We have a large Forest School area on our site where children from Year R to Year 6 develop confidence in laying fires, building shelters, making bug houses and become aware of conservation issues as part of that core offer.

The school has been accredited with the Excellence in Literacy Award, the Quality in Extended Schools and The Parent Partnership Award.

Additionally, the school funds Benenden Health Care cover for all staff members.
