The Foreland School is looking to appoint a Head of 14 – 19 Department following the retirement of the current post holder. 

With the expectation of rising pupil numbers this is an exciting time to join the school as we are about to undertake significant rebuilding work on a new site, to accommodate our rising roll and resultant need to update our accommodation. 

The successful candidate will:

  • be seeking an exciting new challenge in their career
  • be prepared to play a lead role in taking the school through this period of transition
  • be someone who wishes to join a hardworking and dedicated staff team
  • be a committed and enthusiastic teacher with considerable experience of teaching older pupils with high levels of learning difficulty in a special school setting
  • have knowledge and experience of teaching students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder
  • have knowledge and experience of the range of new external accreditation requirements and opportunities for students functioning from lower P levels to NC Level 3
  • have exceptional interpersonal skills and experience of managing people and / or projects
  • be familiar with or have experience of multi-disciplinary working across a range of statutory and voluntary agencies
  • be a member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team and, as such, be actively involved in strategic planning and decision making processes of the school

Information about the school

Foreland Fields School is a Day Special School for pupils with Profound, Severe and Complex Needs (PSCN), many of whom also have Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

We provide for 200+ pupils aged 3-19 in five departments, Nursery, Infants, Juniors (KS2) Secondary (KS3) and KS4/6th Form. In addition, we have satellite classes at Garlinge Primary School, Hartsdown Academy and East Kent College.

Teaching Assistants working hours are from 8.30am until 3pm, apart from Thursdays where the finish time is 2.45pm on alternate weeks and 4.45pm on other weeks to accommodate essential training.
