We are looking for a kind, patient and dedicated 1:1 Support Assistant to work closely with a wonderful pupil in Year 2 who has additional needs.

This is a genuinely rewarding opportunity to become an important part of a child’s school journey. Working within our warm and supportive school team, you will provide consistent, individual support to help the pupil feel safe, happy and confident, access their learning and reach their full potential.

The position is initially for mornings, from 8:30am until 12:00pm. However, we anticipate that the role may develop into a full-time position during the course of the year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualised Learning Support: Provide dedicated 1:1 assistance, implementing strategies outlined in her Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to promote academic progress and overall well-being.
  • Curriculum Access: Collaborate closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored learning activities, both inside and outside the classroom, ensuring they can fully access the curriculum and participate in school life.
  • Fostering Independence: Support in developing confidence, independence, and essential life skills, encouraging them to reach their full potential.
  • Positive Environment: Contribute to a calm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where they feel safe, valued, and motivated.
  • Progress Monitoring: Maintain accurate records of progress, achievements, and any challenges, communicating effectively with the wider educational team and relevant stakeholders.

What We're Looking For: Your Skills and Attributes

  • Experience: Previous experience supporting Key Stage 1 pupils, particularly in a 1:1 capacity, is highly desirable. Experience working with children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), including autism and significant learning difficulties, is a strong advantage.
  • Nurturing Approach: A patient, kind, resilient, and positive mindset is essential. You should be able to build a secure, trusting relationship.
  • Proactive & Initiative: The ability to demonstrate initiative, a proactive approach to behaviour management, and strategies for de-escalation and prevention are key.
  • Understanding of Needs: Awareness of sensory needs and how to meet them, as well as knowledge of supporting a pupil's emotional needs alongside their academic development.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and build positive professional relationships with staff, parents and children.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: A flexible approach and a willingness to learn and adapt to evolving needs.
  • Commitment: A genuine commitment to inclusive education and the values of the school community.
