Working pattern: 37 hours per week*, term time + 5 staff training days/Twilight equivalents

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, hardworking and positive individual to join our Food Technology team in the role of Food Technician.

The successful candidate will be joining a highly effective and welcoming team and will be required to possess the right skills and attitude needed to support our staff in ensuring the smooth running of the Food Technology department.  A full list of responsibilities for this role can be found in the accompanying job description.

The ability to work proactively and efficiently in a busy setting, identifying and meeting department needs whilst managing essential routines effectively, is essential. The successful applicant should have excellent time management skills, be able to meet deadlines, and have a flexible approach to work, as priorities could change at short notice.

 This role requires good organisational skills and an awareness of safe working practices in a food preparation area. 

Experience of working in a similar role in an educational or comparable setting would be advantageous; however, training will be provided for the right candidate.  The ability to relate well to young people is essential.  The successful candidate will be committed to supporting students with their practical work under the direction of the Head of Department.

As with any school role, tact, diplomacy and confidentiality will be required in supporting with a range of situations.  The ability to remain calm and professional under the pressures of working in a busy food preparation and learning area is vital.  In addition, the role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, together with sound ICT skills (ICT training on the specific software packages used in the school will be provided).

The successful candidate will be supported to undertake first aid training to ensure they are confident and adept in dealing with any first aid incidents that may arise in the department.  In addition, the successful candidate may be required to provide ‘on-duty’ general first aid cover at limited, pre-agreed times that are best suited to complement the needs of the department.
