Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral, Standards & School Improvement)

Aylesford School

Are you ready to shape culture, raise standards and transform lives?

Aylesford School is seeking to appoint an exceptional, compassionate and ambitious Deputy Headteacher to join our senior leadership team as a key strategic partner to the Headteacher.

This role offers a rare opportunity to operate as a true “right-hand leader”, with significant influence over whole-school strategy, culture and outcomes—ideal for an outstanding senior leader preparing for Headship.

The Role

You will lead and strategically develop the pastoral life of the school while playing a central role in driving standards and whole-school improvement.

Your responsibilities will include:

· Acting as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring safeguarding is embedded in the culture of the school

· Leading on behaviour, attitudes, attendance and inclusion, securing a calm, purposeful and ambitious environment

· Driving improvements in academic outcomes, particularly at Key Stage 4

· Leading on self-evaluation and school improvement planning, using data to secure rapid and sustained progress

· Aligning pastoral systems with academic success, ensuring every student is supported to achieve their full potential

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a highly effective and aspirational leader who:

· Has significant senior leadership experience in a secondary school

· Has a proven track record of raising standards and leading school improvement

· Is highly skilled in safeguarding, pastoral leadership and inclusion

· Has the ability to analyse performance data and implement impactful strategies

· Can build a culture where high expectations, strong relationships and student success go hand in hand

· Is ready to take the next step towards Headship, with the drive, resilience and vision to lead a school

Why This Role?

This is more than a Deputy Headteacher post—it is an opportunity to:

· Play a leading role in shaping the strategic direction of the school

· Gain broad, high-level leadership experience across pastoral and academic domains

· Develop the skills, confidence and experience needed for successful Headship

· Work alongside a Headteacher committed to developing future leaders

Why Aylesford School?

At Aylesford School, we are committed to ensuring every student achieves both academically and personally. We offer:

· A supportive, ambitious and values-driven culture

· A clear focus on raising standards and continuous improvement

· A strong commitment to staff development and wellbeing

· A collaborative leadership team where your voice will matter

What We Offer

· A genuine pathway towards Headship

· Significant leadership responsibility and influence

· High-quality professional development and coaching

· A supportive environment where you can grow, lead and make a lasting impact

Join Us

If you are an ambitious, values-led leader ready to take the next step towards Headship and make a transformative impact, we would love to hear from you.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and strongly encouraged.
