We are seeking an enthusiastic Academic Mentor to support students in achieving their full potential through high-quality learning support and intervention. Working closely with teaching staff and the inclusion team, you will help plan and deliver structured activities for individuals and small groups, including students with additional needs, both in and out of the classroom. Your role will be key in helping students build confidence, overcome barriers to learning, and make strong academic progress.

You will play an active part in creating a positive and purposeful learning environment, using effective behaviour and engagement strategies to support students’ focus and independence. Alongside this, you will contribute to monitoring progress, providing feedback, and supporting the recording of achievement, as well as assisting with reports and communication with parents and carers. Strong relationships, clear communication and a supportive approach will be central to your success in this role.

We are looking for someone with experience of working with young people in an educational setting, a good standard of English and Maths, and the ability to follow guidance while delivering structured learning activities. Most importantly, you will be passionate about helping students succeed and committed to making a real difference every day.

Applications must be submitted via My New Term https://mynewterm.com/jobs/137389/EDV-2026-CG-21134

Information about the school

Chatham Grammar (CG) is a selective girls’ academy for students aged 11-19, with a mixed sixth form, sponsored by the University of Kent. From September 2026, CG will begin its transition to a fully coeducational academy by welcoming boys into Year 7.

Driven by ambition, CG is committed to inspiring every student to achieve their full potential. As part of the University of Kent Academies Trust, students enjoy unique opportunities with the University, including mentoring from student ambassadors, campus visits, tailored curriculum programmes, international links, and a wide range of enrichment activities that support both academic and personal development. Chatham Grammar is proud of its comprehensive website and would encourage applicants to visit for further information: http://www.chathamgrammar.org.uk/.

The successful applicant will be coming to a multi-academy trust-wide supportive learning environment characterised by open management and in the knowledge that they will enjoy the full support and care of the pragmatic (and down-to-earth) leadership team. We have a dynamic, innovative team of professional staff who want to make a difference to the lives, aspirations and opportunities of our young people. We would encourage applicants to visit the UKAT website to view the many employee benefits on offer: https://www.universityofkentacademiestrust.org.uk/careers-with-ukat.

The University of Kent Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

In addition, the Trust will carry out an online search once as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates. This is intended to help us identify any incidents or issues that have happened and are publicly available online. The selection panel will then explore such items with the candidate during interview. The Trust’s HR Team or another member of staff trained in safer recruitment will use Google.com to conduct each search, and no adverse judgement will be formed for applicants with limited or no online footprint.
