We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and patient 1:1 Support Assistant to work closely with a Year 1 pupil with additional needs. This is a deeply rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in a child's life, fostering her development and helping her thrive within a supportive school environment. You will play a crucial role in her daily learning journey, providing tailored support that unlocks her potential.

This position is currently for mornings only, starting at 8:30 and finishing at 12:00.  However we anticipate this role developing into full time over the year. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Individualised Learning Support: Provide dedicated 1:1 assistance, implementing strategies outlined in her Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to promote academic progress and overall well-being.
  • Curriculum Access: Collaborate closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored learning activities, both inside and outside the classroom, ensuring they can fully access the curriculum and participate in school life.
  • Fostering Independence: Support in developing confidence, independence, and essential life skills, encouraging them to reach their full potential.
  • Positive Environment: Contribute to a calm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where they feel safe, valued, and motivated.
  • Progress Monitoring: Maintain accurate records of progress, achievements, and any challenges, communicating effectively with the wider educational team and relevant stakeholders.

What We're Looking For: Your Skills and Attributes

  • Experience: Previous experience supporting Key Stage 1 pupils, particularly in a 1:1 capacity, is highly desirable. Experience working with children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), including autism and significant learning difficulties, is a strong advantage.
  • Nurturing Approach: A patient, kind, resilient, and positive mindset is essential. You should be able to build a secure, trusting relationship.
  • Proactive & Initiative: The ability to demonstrate initiative, a proactive approach to behaviour management, and strategies for de-escalation and prevention are key.
  • Understanding of Needs: Awareness of sensory needs and how to meet them, as well as knowledge of supporting a pupil's emotional needs alongside their academic development.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and build positive professional relationships with staff, parents and children.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: A flexible approach and a willingness to learn and adapt to evolving needs.
  • Commitment: A genuine commitment to inclusive education and the values of the school community.

 

Information about the school

Rodmersham School is a popular seven small class primary school situated in a picturesque spot on Rodmersham Village Green, two miles south of Sittingbourne. The school serves an area that includes local farms, the village with its mixture of old and new owner occupied properties.

The Victorian school building was built in 1869 and over the years the school buildings have been developed. We have endeavoured to make the environment bright and pleasant for all and have a large school field, which is used for many activities and recently we have added outdoor apparatus to the field; it also houses our Forest School. We have highly supportive parents and teaching team and consider the positive well being of all to be a top priority, including monitoring the workload of teachers to ensure that a healthy home/work life balance is achieved.
