We are seeking an inspiring and enthusiastic teaching assistant who is committed to providing a transformative education for our children.

You will be:

  • A professional, caring individual who has the ability to enthuse and motivate children.
  • Committed to achieving the highest standards of learning.
  • Able to communicate, work as part of a successful team, take on board advice and use initiative.
  • Organised, efficient and flexible in your approach.
  • Willing to further develop and widen your own skills.

Previous experience of the knowledge and skills for the role is desirable although not essential; a sense of enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and a professional outlook is key. All staff receive a full induction, and if you join us without prior experience, we will support you with additional training in your first 6 weeks with us.

The role will involve assisting the class teacher in a range of duties to support pupils to make progress on targeted areas. You will be working with students who require support to understand concepts and express their ideas both verbally and in writing. By working closely with our learners you will be rewarded daily by seeing the impact of your support and the progress they are making. You may also be asked to provide ad-hoc support to other pupils in the classroom.

You will provide playground supervision as needed during break-time and lunchtime.  The role may occasionally require intimate care support.

We can offer some flexibility in working hours, with support required from 9:15-12:45. This role is a term time only, initially a fixed term contract until 31/08/26. We would like the suitable candidate to start as soon as possible and may contact candidates as applications are submitted.

The applicant should have a minimum of GCSE Grade C in English and Maths, or equivalent, and have good verbal and written skills.

Please apply via this website. Contact with the school prior to making an application is welcome - we are always happy to provide a tour of our friendly and supportive school.

Fordcombe CE Primary School is part of the Tenax Schools Trust which is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and all applicants are expected to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to pre-employment checks, including satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS check.

We reserve the right to close and withdraw this advertisement before the advertised date if we receive a suitable application.

Information about the school

Fordcombe Church of England Primary School is a half-form entry village school set in the beautiful Kent countryside near Tunbridge Wells, where our Christian vision, "inspiring every child to shine in God's light", shapes everything we do.

A collaborative team culture: Our recent SIAMS inspection described us as "a small, welcoming school full of joy where people flourish," where relationships between staff and pupils are exceptionally strong. We are a close-knit team that values each member's wellbeing and professional growth equally. Staff describe working here as being part of a supportive family where everyone is genuinely known and valued.

Your career development matters: As part of the Tenax Schools Trust, you'll benefit from a comprehensive professional development programme that goes far beyond what a standalone small school could offer.

Facilities and resources: Our Victorian building houses a characterful school hall, while purpose-built classrooms and a dedicated library space support our commitment to reading for pleasure. We work diligently to meet every learner's needs with creative approaches that ensure all children have opportunities to discover and develop their talents.

Teaching the whole child: Academic excellence matters deeply here. We share high expectations with staff, parents, and pupils, working collaboratively to ensure every child achieves well. But we're equally committed to something broader: helping children discover their identity, explore their aspirations, and develop the values that will guide their lives. As a staff member at Fordcombe, you'll be supporting both academic progress and the personal growth that shapes confident, capable young people ready for their next steps.

What we are looking for: Adults who thrive in collaborative environments, value evidence-informed practice, and believe that primary education is about more than attainment; it is where children discover who they are, explore who they want to become, and begin to understand how they want to live their lives.

If this sounds like the right environment for your next career step, we would love to hear from you.
