We are looking for a dynamic Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Teacher (SEND) Teacher to join our ambitious school team from September 2026. Oakley School is the District Special School for Tunbridge Wells for pupils aged 4 to 19 years of age with Profound, Severe and Complex Needs (PSCN). You will work alongside specialist staff supporting pupils with complex needs, including autism and sensory processing challenges.

Classes are small sized and you will be supported by highly skilled Learning Support Assistants and Therapists who support a deliver a calm, purposeful, low arousal and trauma informed learning environment. We believe ‘Every Moment Matters’ at Oakley School and you will be integral to contributing to Oakley’s future.

Qualifications and Requirements

We would like someone who is:

  • A Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and is passionate about SEND and Inclusion.
  • Committed to working collaboratively with colleagues, families and school partners.
  • Knowledge of SEND, particularly in areas such as Autism, SLD and PMLD is advantageous.
  • Creative and flexible in meeting the needs of pupils.
  • Experienced in teaching the EYFS and Primary Curriculum, or willing to develop these skills, and committed to ongoing professional development to grow and meet the needs of our complex cohort.
  • Skilled in delivering high quality lessons that are personalised to meet a range of needs for pupils with profound, severe and complex needs and brings positivity and resilience in your practice.

Information about the school

Oakley School is the Tunbridge Wells District Special School for day pupils, aged from 4 to 19 years. All our children and young people have profound, severe and complex needs and communication and learning difficulties.

We have a site in Tonbridge which caters for our Phase 4 (16+) students and a site in Tunbridge Wells which caters for children and young people from the age of 4 to 16. Our one-day Section 8 OFSTED inspection in October 2024 reaffirmed us as 'Good'. We aspire to be outstanding in all that we do.
