Advert

St Peter's is a small, friendly and popular school. We are over subscribed. We do not chase Ofsted or SATs success. Instead, we are committed to providing the best all round education we can for our children. We as far removed from the blight of corporate academy chains as is possible to be.

Our team includes a dedicated group of TAs. Unfortunately, one of them has decided to leave at the end of this term and hence we are advertising to replace her.

We have 2 TAs in both the Year R and 1 classes, and then one TA in every other year group. We try to assess the needs of our children early in their school careers and to then work hard at addressing whatever needs might prevent them succeeding in school. Having a larger team in Year R and 1 allows this to happen as early and as fully as is possible.

Our TAs work in the classrooms, under the direction of the class teachers, supporting the children with their curriculum work. They also work outside the classroom, in the spaces we have available, to deliver both differentiated work to those children who require an element of support in their learning, and specialist programmes to those who have a specific barrier to learning, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia etc. Ideally we would like to recruit someone who has experience of working as a TA, delivering specialist programmes to children in KS1. We have a particular focus on oracy and addressing speech and language issues. Any expertise in these areas would be especially welcome.

You may be very happy to work and remain as a TA, in this role. However, we also try to develop our staff as much as we can. One of our TAs now has QTS and is a class teacher here. Another became an HLTA and another is now on that same path. One more is beginning her teacher training.

This particular vacancy would be in Year 1 for the remainder of the year. However, we try to move our teachers and TAs across year groups every few years to develop their knowledge of the primary age range and ensure you don't get stale from working on the same curriculum.

You would begin work at 8.15am, 15 minutes before the children come into school. This provides a little time for you to liaise with the class teacher about the day ahead. You have a 15 minute morning break and 1/2 hour for lunch, but we ask TAs to work 1/2 hour at lunch as MMS. You would finish at 3pm, as school ends.

TA pay is on KSA and working 8.15-3pm means that you would be paid a pro rata total of £16,880.

Please contact me to discuss the role informally and I will happily show you around the school if you wish to visit prior to applying. The magic of this school really is in the people, both the adults and the children, so visits are strongly encouraged.

St Peter’s Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and expects all staff to share this commitment. All appointments will be subject to safer recruitment procedures. Enhanced DBS checks are required for this post.

Information about the school

St Peter's is a small, delightful village primary school situated in the medieval village of Aylesford, housed in a Victorian building and the old vicarage, opposite the village church. We take pride in our caring and supportive attitude to everyone at the school and aim to ensure that the continued professional development of all staff is a priority.

We currently have 208 children in seven classes. Due to our popularity, KCC have extended our original classrooms so that each can now accommodate 30 pupils. We have grown from a roll of just 167 some 9 years ago. We have been over subscribed for our Year R intake for the past 3 years.

Our ethos is that we aim to develop the child as a whole. We are not focused on SATs league tables or achieving a judgement of Outstanding from Ofsted. We want to deliver to our pupils the type of rounded education that we would wish for our own children. This means delivering the widest and richest curriculum possible. We aim to provide our children with an education which prepares them for the adult life ahead of them.

Children learn a modern foreign language from Year R and continue to do so throughout their years here. Every Thursday is a Creative Day, when we only teach art, music, MFL, computing and PE. Education is not about focusing your efforts on achieving the highest possible SATs grades; real education is about providing our children with the best possible teaching and the widest possible curriculum.

We want our children to be both supported, and to be shown that it is quite alright to take a chance and to fail. They must learn that being taken out of their comfort zone is exciting and not frightening. We are preparing our children for life, not a test. But if we do so professionally, with high quality teaching, then they will succeed in tests as best as they are able, as well as being fully prepared for the life which awaits them.

We have a small team of dedicated staff who love their school and work extremely hard to ensure that our children receive the best possible education. We support each other and appreciate each other's strengths. This is a friendly and supportive environment and we welcome like minded individuals who wish to join us.
