Join Our Team as a Higher‑Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA – SEND 1:1)

We are seeking an exceptional Higher‑Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work 1:1 with a pupil in EYFS who has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This is a rewarding opportunity to make a daily, meaningful impact on a child’s learning, confidence and independence.

Key Responsibilities

1:1 Personalised Support

  • Provide tailored daily support to help a pupil access the curriculum.
  • Focus on communication, speech and language, emotional regulation and social interaction.

Intervention Planning & Delivery

  • Work with the class teacher to plan, deliver and review individualised interventions, especially for pupils with ASD.
  • Adapt resources and teaching approaches to meet specific needs.

Progress Monitoring

  • Keep accurate records of strategies, outcomes and progress.
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and professional discussions.

Liaison & Communication

  • Build strong relationships with parents and carers through daily handovers.
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, educational psychologists and external agencies.

Beyond the Classroom

  • Support the pupil during transitions, playtimes, lunchtime and off‑site visits.
  • Help ensure they feel safe, included and confident.

Teamwork & Leadership

  • Work closely with the SENDCo and wider staff team.
  • Occasionally model best practice for colleagues.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • HLTA Status (or equivalent).
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English & Maths A*–C or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting primary-aged pupils with SEND.
  • Solid understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and associated needs.

Working Pattern & Salary

  • Hours: 30 hours per week, term time only
  • Salary: Aquila Pay Level C
    • FTE: £26,373
    • Actual: £18,079
  • Contract: Term time only, Fixed term, linked to EHCP funding
  • Checks: Enhanced DBS

St Nicholas CE Primary Academy is situated in the heart of New Romney, surrounded by beautiful grounds and equipped with excellent resources to support its 15 classes and more than 420 pupils. Our over-subscribed and well-maintained school was judged Good with Outstanding features by Ofsted in May 2019 and again in 2024.
