We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our collaborative English department in the role of Teacher of English (Maternity Cover) starting from February 2026. Successful candidates will be passionate about delivering an English curriculum which supports our vision of developing STEM professionals for the future global market.

As a Teacher of English, you will play a crucial role in shaping the educational journey of our students. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons that ignite a love for reading, writing, and critical thinking. Your passion for English will inspire students to reach their full potential and develop essential communication skills for their future. Our successful candidate will have high expectations of their students, strong subject knowledge, resilience, compassion and a keen desire to learn and grow.

At The Leigh UTC, we believe our team ethos is the most important aspect of our success, making this a great opportunity for a teacher who wants the opportunity to be innovative and collaborative in a supportive environment.

We’d like to hear from you if you are:

  • An excellent teacher who is passionate about learning and has strong subject knowledge;
  • A keen advocate for the importance of English education as part of the curriculum;
  • Have a high level of teaching experience and delivery of results, or are an Early Career Teacher (ECT) looking for their first position;
  • Collaborative, able to build strong professional relationships;
  • Able to motivate and inspire students and staff to achieve their full potential;
  • Energetic and have a ‘can-do’ attitude;
  • Confident, with strong career aspirations;
  • Committed to the safeguarding and happiness and wellbeing of everyone at the Academy.

We aim to develop learners who are not only confident, thoughtful readers, writers and speakers, but who are also interested, independent thinkers. The Leigh UTC is a STEM-based provision, but our learners enjoy and value their studies in English, and see the relevance of the subject to the rest of their studies and to their futures.

Note that whilst the position is offered on a maternity cover basis initially of up to one year, every effort will be made to offer a substantive position thereafter, either at Leigh UTC Dartford or within the wider family of academies across Leigh Academies Trust. The central Recruitment Team will keep in touch with you throughout your contract to discuss options available to you.

“Leaders, governors and the trust have high expectations of pupils’ learning. Their close monitoring of the school’s work allows them to act swiftly to make any necessary improvements. Staff feel well supported in managing their workload. They appreciate that leaders look out for their well-being”. - Ofsted 2022

“The Leigh UTC is a place where I started my teaching journey. I was completely new to teaching and started my journey as a learning mentor in January 2019, and since then it has been very developmental. I have learned so much through some of the amazing people who I work with. It feels like everyone genuinely wants you to be your best at the UTC and I love that.” - Zaeem, Director of Learning - Computer Science
