A Pathway into Early Years Education

Are you passionate about working with young children and eager to begin a career that makes a difference? Whether you’re entering the workforce or seeking a new path, this apprenticeship offers a hands-on, supported way into Early Years education.

Through on-the-job experience at Bligh and blended learning with LMP Group, you’ll gain essential knowledge while working toward a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll be supported to achieve either the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship. Training covers child development (birth–5 years), safeguarding, communication, wellbeing, play-based learning, transitions, equality, diversity, and SEND awareness.

What the Role Involves

As an apprentice at Bligh, you will:

  • Support children’s development through play-based activities in a safe, inclusive environment.

  • Assist with observations, assessments, and record-keeping alongside experienced staff.

  • Help with daily routines—meals, self-care, transitions—creating a secure setting.

  • Develop knowledge of safeguarding, risk minimisation, and emotional wellbeing.

By the end of the programme, you’ll be qualified to work at ratios as a Level 2 Practitioner or Level 3 Educator, ready for a permanent role or further training.

Who You Are

You will be:

  • Passionate about children’s learning and growth.

  • Reliable, proactive, and eager to learn.

  • A good communicator who works well in a team.

  • Caring, patient, and committed to building positive relationships with children and families.

No prior qualifications are required—just enthusiasm, empathy, and dedication. Your pathway (Level 2 or Level 3) will be tailored to your starting point.

Information about the school

Bligh Primary School forms part of the Maritime Academy Trust, a multi-academy trust that is committed to making sure that education is meaningful.

Our Trust is made up of 11 primary schools located in Greenwich, Bexley and Kent. Though our schools may be different with their own in-school culture and community spirit, they all work harmoniously and collaboratively together within a curriculum that ensures each and every child is being equipped with leadership and life skills. At Maritime, we do this by empowering schools to drive more meaningful and enjoyable outcomes for children by having great people working for us, who commit to working hard to make an impact whatever the school and whatever the role.

We are thriving two form entry school which has been selected by the DFE to ‘grow’ to a three form entry school due to its good and outstanding statuses. By 2023 Bligh Primary will be a full three form entry school.

Our key objective at Bligh Primary School is to equip all our children with the key skills of communication and collaboration as well as being community minded. We expect all our adults to provide the children with first hand experiences, knowledge and the necessary skills to articulate what they have learnt in a clear and informative way. This is developed through our clear teaching and learning focus on communication, community and collaboration.

Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We welcome and celebrate differences within our school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by our HEART values. Bligh is a school with HEART. Honesty, Empathy, Achievement, Resilience and Teamwork. We believe that these personal characteristics are essential in forming positive adult lives.

Our community is an essential part of the curriculum, which is why we chose to focus on using the surrounding local area to deepen the children’s understanding, making them experts of their locality throughout their learning journey.

Children leave Bligh with a sense of belonging, the ability to work independently, in pairs or as part of a team in collaboration. They can communicate effectively what they have learnt, gather a wealth of knowledge and skills through all areas of the curriculum. They have a clear understanding and knowledge of the community around them, their place within it and the opportunities it presents.

Maritime Academy Trust embraces diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
