About the Role

As our school continues to grow in size and ambition, we’re seeking a Literacy Tutor to work one-to-one and with small groups of students, helping them build confidence and fluency in reading, spelling, and writing. You’ll be trained to deliver the Thinking Reading programme and play a key role in raising literacy levels across the school.


What You’ll Do:

  • Plan and deliver structured, 30-minute one-to-one literacy sessions

  • Support students with spelling and handwriting interventions

  • Prepare engaging lesson materials and keep accurate records of student progress

  • Manage student motivation and behaviour, ensuring a high-quality learning experience

  • Contribute to regular progress reviews with school leaders

  • Run the school library at set times, fostering a love of reading

  • Support wider literacy interventions and SEN-related tasks as needed


What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • A-levels or equivalent, including GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4+)

  • Experience working with children/adolescents

  • Confidence with IT systems (email, spreadsheets, databases)

  • Organised, proactive, and able to work independently

Desirable:

  • A-level or degree in English Language

  • Experience supporting EAL students or using Direct Instruction programmes

You’ll also be someone who:

  • Holds high expectations for all students, regardless of background

  • Believes every child can learn and succeed with the right support

  • Maintains a warm, calm, and firm presence in the classroom

  • Understands safeguarding, inclusion, and confidentiality requirements
