Advert

Snodland Church of England Primary School are seeking volunteer governors for two Foundation Governor roles.

Our governing board provide a wealth of vision, ethos and strategic direction to our school as a whole.  As a governor you will be a volunteer who makes a vital contribution to the success of the school.

The Governing Body has 3 core functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

No qualifications are required to become a volunteer governor, however the most important qualities for a governor are commitment to the welfare and achievement of the children, a desire to make a positive contribution to the school, common sense, and a willingness to commit to the role. Many of the functions of the governing body are statutory, or have a legal framework.  To carry out our core strategic roles, governors need to be able to think strategically, challenge, monitor, but also support.

As a school governor you will become part of our school community and bring with you your strengths and knowledge which will become crucial to the running of our school.  Full training is available to all our governors either in person or online which enables our governors to develop their knowledge of the school and what will be expected of them.

Our Full Governing Board meets 5 times a year on a Monday from 4.30pm (for 1-2 hours). In addition to this you will be encouraged to work as part of a monitoring group which involves carrying out monitoring activities linked to the School Development Plan.  Times and dates of monitoring group visits are decided between those involved. Some Governors are also part of Committees and additional meetings are held for these at times that suit the members of the committee. A governor is expected to complete a term of office for a minimum of four years.

We welcome governors from a diverse range of backgrounds, skills and experience to join our team.  You must be 18 or over to apply and all governors will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DSB) checks.  If you would to find out more about our school and our governors, please visit  https://www.snodland.kent.sch.uk

Information about the school

Snodland CEP School is a two-form entry primary school. We have strong links to our Parish Churches of All Saints and Christ Church and within the wider community, working collaboratively with other schools in the local area.

We are grateful for our large school site which boasts a large playground with play equipment including a trim trail and outdoor gym, forest school, allotment area and large sports field. The EYFS outdoor area has recently been redeveloped and offers children an interactive space to develop free play and can be arranged by teachers to build and explore curriculum focuses.

Our classrooms, which all open out onto the shared playground, are all equipped with interactive whiteboards and technology to support teaching and learning. We have a hall with a purpose-built stage, a ceiling mounted projector and screen to present student performances and collective worship. We are fortunate to have bespoke areas throughout the school which are used to facilitate small group work and targeted interventions, and we have several indoor and outdoor areas which children, including those with SEND can calmly regulate in a supported environment so they are able to access their learning.

At Snodland CEP School we are committed to our vision, that we are ‘Living life to the full, to the glory of God’, every member of our school community shines their light, and their unique talents are shared with and appreciated at Snodland CEP School.

Snodland CEP School is based in the growing town of Snodland, at the foot of the North Downs, which is less than an hour from both the beautiful Kent Coast and central London. Snodland is historically an industrial town which saw rapid expansion during the 19th Century and continues to be an area, with its close links to London, which is expanding with a diverse population. The school is easily reached by both the M2 and M20 motorways and there is ample onsite parking. The school is a 10 minute walk to the station which is on the high-speed line to London St Pancras.
