Community Ambassador – Featherby Infant & Junior School
2 Year Fixed-Term Contract | Part-time | 15 hours per week | Term-time only

Are you passionate about bringing people together, building strong community links, and making a real difference in the lives of children and families? Do you love connecting with others and want to be part of a school that truly values relationships and inclusion?

Featherby Infant and Junior School is looking for a Community Ambassador to join our team!

This is a unique opportunity to become a key part of our community engagement work — helping to build meaningful partnerships between families, local organisations, and the school. You’ll also join a network of Community Ambassadors across the Maritime Academy Trust, sharing ideas and driving initiatives that help every child thrive.

What’s the role all about?
As a Community Ambassador, you’ll:

  • Build relationships with local businesses, charities, and services
  • Help us unlock new opportunities for families through community-led projects
  • Support and organise events like coffee mornings, parent workshops, and school community days
  • Represent the school in the wider Medway community and raise its profile
  • Signpost families to local support services and resources
  • Work closely with the inclusion and wellbeing team, and the wider Trust network, to make a meaningful impact

Whether it’s helping run a family engagement event, setting up a parent support group, or being a welcoming face at the school gate — this is a role where your energy, empathy, and creativity will make a big difference.

What kind of person are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Empathetic, approachable, and a great listener
  • Confident working with a wide range of people and cultures
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage their own time well
  • Resilient and adaptable to the changing needs of the school and community
  • Passionate about making a difference to families and children

What kind of experience might you have?
Community experience comes in many forms. You might have:

  • Helped run a PTA or school event
  • Supported a youth group or local sports team
  • Sat on a community board or local committee
  • Volunteered as a parent helper on school trips or reading sessions
  • Contributed time to a local charity or worked in a charity shop
  • Helped organise community events or fundraisers

If you’ve ever played a role in supporting or connecting people in your community — that’s exactly the kind of experience we’re looking for.

You’ll be working independently — but never alone. Our warm and experienced team will support you every step of the way. You’ll also be part of a fantastic Trust-wide network of Community Ambassadors to learn from, collaborate with, and share ideas.

This is a term-time only, part-time role (15 hours per week) with flexible working hours. Your time might be split between working on-site, out in the community, or occasionally from home.

The Trust and its academies are committed to recruiting with care and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The post is subject to a successful Enhanced DBS check and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before an appointment is confirmed.
