Governance Professional to the Trust Board and Clerk to one LGB

The Post

Required for 1 August or sooner, the Trustees are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, experienced Governance Professional to be responsible for overseeing all aspects of governance effectiveness and compliance within the trust, ensuring governance adheres to good practice and meets all statutory and regulatory requirements.

You will be required to support the efficient and effective operation of the trust board and its committees; ensuring governance at all levels is carrying out its functions; supporting the clerks of the Local Governing Board as required; leading on development of the trust’s governance framework and driving improvements to its systems, processes and structures and managing and coordinating the delivery and ongoing improvement of governance support across the trust.

Depending on experience and qualifications the role attracts a pay range between BCAT 7 - BCAT 9. (BCAT 7: Level 3 Clerking, BCAT 8: Level 4 Academy Governance, BCAT 9: Chartered Governance). We support further training and career development with this specific role and candidates interested in completing relevant qualifications and training.

The ability to work evenings to clerk committee meetings which usually run between 5 – 8pm, some of which will be face-to-face in Canterbury and some on-line are essential as is the ability to work flexible hours as the job role requires.

The job role would suit someone who wishes to work flexibly with a zero hours contract or someone who wishes to become an employee. The hours of work are expected to be equivalent to 4 days per week, 0.8FTE.

THE TRUST

Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT) is a multi-academy Trust which was established in 2017.

It currently consists of three secondary schools: Barton Court Grammar School, an 11-18 years, mixed selective school in the heart of Canterbury, rated “Good” with many outstanding features by Ofsted in February 2020; The Charles Dickens School, an 11-16 years mixed non-selective school in Broadstairs, rated “Good” by Ofsted in March 2023 and Barton Manor Free School, an 11–18 years non-selective mixed school in the heart of Canterbury which opened to Year 7 in September 2022 and as the school grows now has Y7, Y8 and Y9 from September 2024.
