Are you passionate about Design Technology and supporting students in a hands-on learning environment? The Canterbury Academy Trust is seeking a dedicated and reliable Design Technology Technician to join our vibrant and dynamic team.

As a key member of our Design Technology department, you will play an essential role in assisting both students and teachers to deliver a safe, engaging, and effective learning experience. Your responsibilities will include maintaining workshop tools, supporting students with equipment and materials, and contributing to the smooth operation of our D&T facilities. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to school productions and work on exciting projects across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and service tools, machines, and systems in the practical faculty to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
  • Support students with the use of equipment and materials, ensuring health and safety standards are met.
  • Assist with the maintenance of D&T, art, textiles, photography and graphics materials and technology as required.
  • Maintain an inventory of D&T resources and assist with PAT testing.
  • Collaborate with staff to improve the D&T department’s facilities and contribute to departmental projects.

Who We're Looking For:

  • A proactive individual with a passion for Design Technology.
  • Someone with a keen interest in supporting students and fostering a hands-on learning environment.
  • A good team player with excellent communication skills.Experience with workshop tools and machinery is desirable, but not essential.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and take on responsibility.

Information about the federation

Based in the heart of the historic City of Canterbury, The Canterbury Academy Trust came into existence in October 2010 when schools judged by Ofsted to be ‘outstanding’ were allowed to convert to academy status, benefit from greater freedoms and shape their futures.

Since then The Canterbury Academy Trust has grown and it now provides a variety of services ‘to improve the life chances of children and to help in the community’. These include: City View Pre-School and Nurseries Ltd; a newly built and expanded two form of entry The Canterbury Primary School; a Specialist Resourced Based Provision for primary ASD pupils; The Canterbury Academy, which has expanded to take an additional form of entry; a Specialist Resourced Based Provision for secondary Speech and Language students; The Cullum Centre, in partnership with The National Autistic Society; The Sixth Form, Enterprise and Employability Centre, which includes one of the largest Sixth Forms in Kent; The Canterbury Youth Commission, The Ashford Youth Commission, and area wide Inclusion and Engagement Service and Professional Learning and Community Centre with café.
