Term time only role for a HR professional.  The role is advertised as Term Time only (39 weeks per year) and 37 hours per week, however flexibility on this would be considered o request.

The HR team at The Beacon is expanding and as a result, we have a really exciting opportunity to welcome a HR officer on board.

The ideal candidate will have attributes and skills, that can best complement our current team and wider community.  It is really important for us, that our new team member has an understanding of the key elements of employment law and can apply these in their everyday actions; whilst ensuring sensitivity and understanding for each individual that they speak to.

If your work ethic is concerned with values of commitment, honesty, authenticity and sincerity, you would be a perfect fit for our team.   This position would suit a HR professional with generalist experience (2years+) at a senior administrator / advisor / officer level.  Although CIPD qualifications are advantageous, they are not required for this role and the ability to flex with the needs of the role would supersede this.  The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in working to provide the best possible environment for our pupils to excel in daily and approach their role with a professional and willing manner.

Why The Beacon? Aside from our fantastic provision, we have great opportunities for staff training and development, in-house coaching, wellbeing initiatives, staff social events, wellbeing days, a café, access to professional counselling, free flu jab and opportunities for staff to gain GCSEs… amongst others.

The successful candidate will join our HR Assistant and HR Manager in facilitating all aspects of HR and training, across a growing organisation.  We understand that the Human Resources function within the education sector can be quite unique in its challenges, however it is incredibly rewarding and the outcome of your efforts can be seen every day.  Despite being a small team, the HR Team are fortunate to works closely with the wider support teams in the school including administration, ICT, finance, facilities and catering.  We are an invested and caring employer, with a big community which oozes energy, diversity and vibrancy.

If you think that you would be a good addition to the team, we would love to hear from you.  Our HR manager would welcome an introductory conversation if you would like to hear more about the role or come and visit the school.

Please note: the role may close sooner than advertised, subject to volume of applicants.

Information about the school

The Beacon is a multi-site, all-age school (3-19 years) offering 410 pupils with complex needs, profound and severe learning difficulties and physical and sensory impairments a wide range of educational experiences. We currently work across four sites: the main site is Park Farm Road, Folkestone, a small 10 place satellite provision hosted by Castle Hill Primary School, Beacon+ College for 19-25 year olds based in the town centre and our newest satellite provision in Walmer.

The Beacon has a strong cooperative ethos and culture, building on personalised learning to ensure all students thrive within school and beyond. Learning at The Beacon offers a child-centred ‘needs led’ curriculum, which incorporates elements of the EY Foundation Stage, National Curriculum and external accreditation as appropriate, including Life Skills and Social Skills.

We will also continue to provide training and support for mainstream schools through the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service team managed by the school. This team offers support, training, outreach advice and guidance to our mainstream colleagues. In addition, the Beacon has both conference and meeting facilities and regularly hosts nationally renowned speakers on its courses.

The Beacon also hosts a Multi-Agency Support Hub. This is one of four centres across the County that brings NHS colleagues, paediatricians, speech and occupational therapists, and nursing services, alongside children’s social services and portage colleagues into one cohesive centre. We are proud of the strong partnerships this brings to benefit the children and families of Shepway.

At The Beacon, we are driven by our shared moral purpose to do all that we can to improve educational outcomes and life chances for all our young people. We believe strongly that the best way to do this is through the partnership, collaboration and a commitment to work together to achieve excellence in all we do. Nothing says this more than our peer to peer reflection and coaching groups that exist throughout the school. This total collaboration and investment from staff drives our teaching and learning to be the best it can be. As we have outlined at the beginning of this narrative, we expect the highest possible standards of ourselves and all stakeholders, believing that in this way we can maximise learning and develop a truly reflective learning community.

If this sounds like the kind of environment in which you would thrive, then we look forward to hearing from you.
