The mathematics faculty at Canterbury Academy would like to offer you an exciting opportunity to join the mathematics faculty leadership team. We are looking for a mathematics specialist who could confidently lead on Key Stage 3 mathematics within a forward-thinking and ambitious department.

The ideal candidate in this Head of Key Stage 3 role would oversee all students in Year 7 through to Year 9. This would involve ensuring an appropriate curriculum is delivered, students are making the required progress and early intervention is provided where necessary.

The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about mathematics, able to meet deadlines and work effectively with our leadership team.

The Mathematics Faculty

We are a large team that strongly believe all students should be given the opportunity to master mathematics. This means we are striving for all students to acquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject.

Within the faculty we see the benefit of continued professional development to help promote good outcomes for our students. We run development sessions three to four times a term focussing on various aspects of teaching mathematics through a teaching for mastery approach.

We are in search of someone who has the ability to put their vision for teaching and learning into practice. They will work closely with the Director for Teaching and Learning of Mathematics to support in the embedding of an engaging curriculum and will join us in continuing our positive trends in helping students reach their full potential.

We are looking for the person who could bring exciting ideas into the classroom and who has a passion for teaching mathematics. To put their vision for teaching and learning into practice, supported by an experienced team of staff. They will work closely with the Curriculum Leader for Mathematics to support in the development and delivery of an engaging and challenging curriculum for students of all abilities. They will model at least good teaching practice and inspire others through the delivery of effective and exciting lessons. A bespoke CPD programme will be tailored to meeting their needs.

The Mathematics department has seen lots of success in both pupil outcomes and Progress 8 in the past few years and would like to continue these positive trends. Time has been dedicated to upskilling the team in pedagogy and curriculum knowledge. This has resulted in an innovative and creative department who use evidence-based practice to develop their teaching and curriculum design.

We are a team that seeks to find new and interesting ways to allow pupils to learn and make progress. This is based on a supportive team ethos. As a department, we have successfully overseen massive changes to curriculum and assessment and are looking to continue to improve to ensure that pupils get the best possible grades and experience in Mathematics.

Based in the heart of the historic City of Canterbury, The Canterbury Academy Trust came into existence in October 2010 when schools judged by Ofsted to be ‘outstanding’ were allowed to convert to academy status, benefit from greater freedoms and shape their futures.

Since then The Canterbury Academy Trust has grown and it now provides a variety of services ‘to improve the life chances of children and to help in the community’.
