At The Canterbury Academy, we seek to appoint a Teacher of Design Technology, with an interest in delivering BTEC Engineering within our Practical Learning department and be part of a fantastic, supportive and passionate team. We know that STEM is subject area that will grow over the next few years and within the DT department we offer Product design up to A level, and BTEC engineering in KS4 and 5. We are seeking to appoint someone that is passionate about STEM education and wants to deliver BTEC engineering within their design technology teaching role and potentially grow this subject over the next few years.

Our amazing students benefit from excellent facilities and you will be able to teach across all key stages. As a Design Technology department, we benefit from specialist materials and equipment, a design technology technician and excellent support from the large practical learning faculty. As we offer Art, Textiles, Graphic Design, Photography and construction many of the resources can be shared to support delivery of excellent lessons.

Staff are supported by the friendly and passionate department that will offer excellent personalised CPD and training opportunities to develop your subject knowledge. The opportunities in a large academy are endless, and for someone wanting to develop their career and grow their skillset and knowledge there will be many opportunities available for the right person.

Information about the federation

Based in the heart of the historic City of Canterbury, The Canterbury Academy Trust came into existence in October 2010 when schools judged by Ofsted to be ‘outstanding’ were allowed to convert to academy status, benefit from greater freedoms and shape their futures.

Since then The Canterbury Academy Trust has grown and it now provides a variety of services ‘to improve the life chances of children and to help in the community’. These include: City View Pre-School and Nurseries Ltd; a newly built and expanded two form of entry The Canterbury Primary School; a Specialist Resourced Based Provision for primary ASD pupils; The Canterbury Academy, which has expanded to take an additional form of entry; a Specialist Resourced Based Provision for secondary Speech and Language students; The Cullum Centre, in partnership with The National Autistic Society; The Sixth Form, Enterprise and Employability Centre, which includes one of the largest Sixth Forms in Kent; The Canterbury Youth Commission, The Ashford Youth Commission, and area wide Inclusion and Engagement Service and Professional Learning and Community Centre with café.
