The Hundred of Hoo Academy has a fantastic opportunity to appoint a talented and passionate Teacher of MFL who truly wishes to inspire our pupils within the languages remit. Our ideal candidate will be a specialist in teaching either Spanish, French or German and the ability to teach a second language is desirable. Please note that we require our successful teacher to have experience in delivering the UK MFL curriculum.

Our pedagogical approach is based on the latest research and ensures that teaching is efficient and effective whilst prioritising staff wellbeing. We ask our teachers to plan for a rigorous learning experience in which knowledge is broken down into manageable chunks so as to prevent cognitive overload and allow our students to remain focused on what is important. We believe that knowledge should and needs to be taught explicitly from the front by the subject expert in the room. Working in this way allows our students to focus on the recall and activation of that knowledge and bring it to bear on conceptually focused questions. Through direct instruction, retrieval practice, low stakes testing and question level analysis in all year groups, we believe that subject gaps will be tackled as they occur and that proactively working in this manner will eliminate the need for reactive intervention in exam year groups.

The Academy is currently working towards the International School Award that shows our commitment to embedding international awareness and understanding within our classes and school. We Have made links with a number of schools abroad, allowing us to engage in virtual calls with a school in Korea and have exchange visits planned with schools in Spain.

Joining The Hundred of Hoo all-through academy will enable you to work with like-minded colleagues who share your goals and ambitions. Whether you are new to the teaching profession or experienced, you will contribute to leading and shaping the vision and future of our school and wider Trust.

This is a permanent, full-time position and we would like the successful candidate to join us for January 2024.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for Spanish, French or German.
  • Experience of teaching Key Stage 4.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the research and cognitive science behind what makes effective teaching.
  • The desire to forge strong relationships with colleagues and willingness to collaborate for the benefit of all students and staff.
