Due to our rapid expansion, Leigh Academy Tonbridge has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, motivated and dedicated teacher to take on the role of Second in Charge - Science. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Learning, this is a great opportunity to progress in your teaching career and make a real impact on the wider faculty. 

Our new Key Stage 3 curriculum has been carefully designed to ensure students learn key scientific knowledge as well as having the opportunity to see how Science is important in the real world. The science curriculum is coherently sequenced by carefully ordering topics that reflects the Hierarchal structure of the scientific disciplines. For example, we begin by teaching few of the most fundamentals topics of science such as matter and cells. As the students move through the science curriculum these concepts are regularly visited and built on to develop broader and more complex schemas.

We invest heavily so that staff have ongoing access to weekly high-quality professional development and a curriculum focused on developing conceptual understanding. Our curriculum is underpinned by research on task design, variation theory, concept development and raising achievement. Full training will be available to the successful candidate as you will be supported by a highly effective and dynamic Maths department. 

This is a permanent position offering MPS/UPS, commensurate with experience + a TLR 2A. 

Joining us at Leigh Academy Tonbridge: Building on the strengths of our legacy school, Hayesbrook Academy, Leigh Academy Tonbridge will open our doors to the first cohort of year 7 students, including boys and girls, for September 2023.

Hayesbrook Academy first opened in 1964. Having always been an all-boys school, our history before then is closely linked to the old Sussex Road Boys School, where records go back to the early 1900’s, and so we have a strong tradition of education provision in Tonbridge. The modern day academy has always been an 11-18 comprehensive school with a mixed sixth form, serving the local community.
