The responsibilities of the Pastoral Lead are broad but, in essence, the role is to support children to improve their social and emotional wellbeing so that they can be increasingly independent in overcoming barriers to their learning. The successful candidate will work closely with the SENDCo who will line manage and support the successful candidate.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • To deliver specialist intervention (such as ELSA) to support children in overcoming barriers to their learning and wider progress
  • To work in class to support groups or individuals as directed in order that children can apply the strategies taught to their learning
  • To be present as our first pupils come in, ensuring that there is a consistent thread for some of our children with additional need from the start to the end of the day
  • To meet with individuals or groups to act as a mentor and safe space to discuss their worries and concerns
  • To liaise with staff and parents, where appropriate, to ensure we work together for the best interests of the children
  • To operate a flexible timetable that meets the needs of the children
  • Engage with review meetings with school staff and wider professionals to discuss the needs of particular children
  • To monitor and assist with social times in order to support individuals or groups of children to socialise appropriately
  • To be proactive in being up to date with current safeguarding practices and seek clarification where needed
  • To engage with supervision termly
  • To support children with transition to new schools as required
  • To assist in class and on school trips when required

 

Hours

37.25 hours per week, term time only.

07.45 – 16.00 (30 minutes lunch break)

Canterbury Road Primary School is a one form entry primary school close to Sittingbourne town centre and within easy reach of the M2, M20 and the train station.

We have interested, curious children who love to learn and enjoy coming to school. Our children make excellent progress from their start points and progress & attainment are above national levels at KS2 as they move into their secondary education. We have highly skilled staff who are committed to the development of the whole child and a have an unwavering focus on all pupils achieving their best.
