We are seeking to appoint a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide additional support for a Year 5 child with emotional and well-being challenges; to help them excel in all areas of school life.

This is a term time position, five days a week and linked to High Needs Funding. 

In addition to this, the successful applicant will also support our Medical TA with the care of a child elsewhere in school. (See attached care plan)

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of working with pupils with SEN and delivering interventions, or someone willing to train.
  • Has a strong belief in inclusion, diversity and the right of each child to be successful whatever their needs, abilities and background.
  • Is patient and understanding of children's needs. 
  • Is able to work well as a team member whilst using their initiative and working independently when required.
  • Is flexible, hardworking and highly reliable with excellent communication skills.
  • Is determined to provide the very best outcomes for the children they work with.
  • Uses their good sense of humour to maintain positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents
  • Have a good understanding of numeracy, literacy and ICT.
  • Have GCSE English and Maths grade C or equivalent. 
  • Preferably have a Teaching Assistant Qualification (NVQ level 2 as a minimum), or equivalent.

Wittersham was judged ‘Outstanding’ in our 2017 Church inspection (SIAMS), and we were delighted to welcome SIAMS back in November 2024, where our strong Christian ethos and values were once again celebrated.

The school’s vision is a genuine reality that enables the school community to flourish. They journey together, inspired by the Bible and the story of the road to Emmaus.

The school is a place where the deeply embedded Christian vision has a transformational impact. Governors, leaders, staff, pupils and parents value and live ‘The Wittersham Way’.

The school fosters loving relationships, where pupils and adults are welcomed and treated with dignity and respect. This is particularly evident in the nurture of those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Strong partnerships with the local church and clergy shape and enhance collective worship. Staff and pupils appreciate the regular services in church that spiritually nurture the whole school community.

Ofsted (2020)

Our most recent Ofsted inspection judged the school to be ‘Good’. The inspector noted:

“This is a happy and welcoming school. Christian values and a strong sense of community lie at the heart of this village school. Staff have caring relationships with pupils and know their families well. Pupils respond positively to leaders’ high expectations. Pupils want to do well, and they learn to persevere and not give up. Our school is located mid-way between Tenterden and Rye, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to the church. We serve a range of rural communities, and many families choose to travel to secure a place at our school.
