Information about the school

Small Haven School provides vulnerable children, whose varying needs could not be met in other education placements, with a chance to have a sense of belonging within a school community where they can succeed and thrive. We are a well-established school with an excellent local reputation and was proud to be awarded Outstanding in our recent Ofsted inspection (Dec 2024). The report highlighted that 'behaviour is excellent,' 'personal development is exceptional,' and 'the vision to provide life-changing learning for pupils with SEND is fulfilled every day with expertise, dedication and compassion.' The report stated that 'parents were unanimous in their high praise for leaders and the school and that 'staff feel happy, proud and highly valued.'

Small Haven School is a close community with a well-established positive therapeutic culture. Relationships between staff and pupils are excellent and play an integral role in creating a calm, safe, and happy environment that facilitates learning and enables pupils to reach their full potential. Close positive working relationships with parents is an essential part of our school ethos and success.

As a small school everyone has good knowledge of each other. This allows for excellent understanding and sharing of individual student’s academic, social and emotional needs. This, along with high staff to student ratio, enables effective differentiation and personalised learning. A culture of effective communication and reflective practice is encouraged throughout the school to promote learning and growing together.

Small Haven School is a successful and unique independent SEN school registered for up to 42 students aged between 6 to 19 years across KS1-KS5, all of whom have Education, Health and Care plans. We are always striving to grow and develop in order to provide an excellent standard of provision for the children and young people we care for. The school has a highly dedicated and skilled staff team of 24 working in our small campus. This provides a safe and effective environment for pupils who previously may have experienced insecurity and allows them the opportunity to access their education and thrive in all areas of development.
