About NWKAPS

NWKAPS is an alternative provision for students who might otherwise face exclusion from mainstream school. Our small pupil numbers mean you can make a real difference to pupil’s learning and life chances once they finish school: over 96% of last year’s students successfully achieved their choice of post-16 destination.

By mainstream standards, our teachers have tiny class sizes and plenty of PPA time to prepare high quality lessons. We have a sensible marking policy, three data drops a year, a behaviour policy that’s supported by an active, visible SLT, and we put student and staff wellbeing first in everything we do.

We focus on students’ learning and the quality of our teaching, with CPD, career development and instructional coaching for every teacher, lesson observations that are about improvement not judgement, and a focus on evidence-based teaching in classrooms.

Our students study GCSES as well as a range of Level 2 qualifications and vocational courses in a large, bright, well equipped school building with several purpose built spaces including a beauty salon, workshop, sensory room, and best of all for busy teachers, a coffee shop with an industry standard coffee machine.

NWKAPS is part of Alternative Learning Trust.

Information about the school

Background to Alternative Learning Trust - Kent and Medway Hub

Alternative Learning Trust (ALT) is a multi-academy trust (MAT) for Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), Alternative Provisions (APs), and specialist settings. We are a collaborative trust and believe the most sustainable developments and improvements come from working together. We are driven to transform the educational experiences of all children and young people, offering them opportunities to reach sustainable outcomes for the rest of their lives. These values are accompanied by excellent pedagogy, vibrant curriculum models, and responsible governance.

The Alternative Learning Trust became a multi-academy trust (MAT company number 11788031) in June 2019.

The Trust has been established to work with Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and alternative providers who support vulnerable students to access and engage with education. Many of our students have special educational needs and some have been excluded from mainstream education.

As a Trust we have the following core set of values for our staff and the families we support: • the need for people to flourish in all areas of their lives; • we are stronger through a sense of community; • social justice is vital.
