The Governors of Thurnham Church of England Infant School, are looking to appoint a new Headteacher to our popular school in the picturesque village of Bearsted. The village has a mainline London station and access to the M20 motorway, providing good connections with London, the Kent coastline, Sussex and Essex.

We are looking for:

  • A visionary leader with the ability to think strategically, developing innovative ideas to set the future expectations of our school.
  • Someone who has experience leading with integrity, creativity, resilience and clarity.
  • Ability to inspire all stakeholders to engage with the school’s vision, values and goals.
  • An excellent people-manager with outstanding teaching skills who has experience of successfully motivating and coaching staff to continually develop their skills and maximise their career potential.
  • A leader with the ability to exercise strategic, curriculum-led financial planning and management to ensure effective deployment of budgets and resources ensuring the school’s sustainability.
  • Someone who can sustain the school’s Christian ethos where everybody is valued and encouraged to flourish within a questioning, collaborative, creative and loving environment.

Our latest OFSTED inspection (February 2023) highlighted:

Pupils are joyful and safe in this nurturing school. Children make a strong start in early years, where the school's exceptional pastoral care begins. Pupils feel special and highly valued. Staff are dedicated to finding unique talents in every pupil.

The school roll is currently 271 pupils, spread over nine classes (three classes per year group).

Team work and positive working relationships are very important to us and we are very much at the heart of our community, working closely with our local Church.

Our last diocese inspection was graded Outstanding (March 2018).
