The job is working for the Orchard Academy Trust as a full time Assistant Caretaker.   You will be based at Barming Primary School, but will need to be prepared to work across the Trust’s schools including Allington Primary School and Belmont Pre-School, under the direction of the Site Manager, Mr Paul Moon.

Our ideal caretaker would be someone who has competent DIY skills (decorating, carpentry, basic plumbing/electrical, minor repairs, furniture moving and grounds work etc.), is proactive (able to work on their own initiative, when the site manager is not on the site) and enjoys working as part of a team within a large school site.   Please see attached job description.

This role is a full time position including 38 weeks term time, 5 inset days and 3 weeks of the school holidays.   There may be the opportunity for overtime if the school has larger projects planned, but this is not guaranteed.  The weekly hours are 40 per week (Monday to Friday).   The hours are worked over a split shift: 07:00 to 11:00 & 14:00 to 18:00 (8 hours per day).   We would require our new caretaker to help us to keep our school sites safe and secure, working flexibly in the event of extreme weathers.   There will be an expectation for the occasional weekend opening, in relation to lettings and call outs if the alarm was to sound.   These are paid in addition to the 40 hours per week, but are not guaranteed monthly income.   Pro rated salary for this position is £21,512.14.

Orchard Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.   This post is subject to good references and an enhanced DBS check.   References will be sought at the short listing stage.   The School reserves the right to interview and appoint a candidate before the closing date.
