Penshurst CE Primary School are seeking to appoint a compassionate Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEND. The successful candidate will be required to provide some 1:1 support as well as small group support under the direction of the SENDCo / specialist  teacher.

We are ideally looking for an experienced practitioner, who is confident when working with pupils who have additional needs, particularly young people with complex emotional needs. The ideal candidate will be flexible and adapt quickly to provide support in a range of contexts.

The position is for three days per week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) for Terms 5 and 6. (April – July 2023). The date for interviews is to be confirmed.

The post ideally, would suit a candidate who has:

  • Experience of working with children with SEND as well as emotional needs
  • A good understanding of a school settings (identifying challenges and strengths of the setting to support SEND pupils)
  • Creative and dynamic in their approach to teaching and learning – adapting learning as necessary and making it very practical
  • Enthusiastic team-player and strong communicator
  • Empathetic, vigilant and nurturing
  • Skilled at record keeping

 

Whilst experience is, our preference we are also open to applications from people who have other experience that they feel would benefit the role described.

Information about the school

We are a small village church school, at the heart of our community, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We have 80 pupils taught in four classes: Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6.

The school plays a very active role in the local and wider community and provides many opportunities for children to develop their talents and interests, whether this be in the sporting competitions we take part in or in our wide range of extra-curricular clubs.

Our staff team is small, friendly and mutually supportive, which we believe is a real strength of our school.
