Teaching Assistant

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Teaching Assistant to our team at Bishops Down Primary and Nursery School. The post is Monday to Friday (5 days per week) 8.45am to 3.15pm each day - 30hrs per week.

The teaching assistant role at Bishops Down consists of working closely with the class teacher to deliver group support, interventions and/or 1-1 support for individual children working on personalised targets. Your ability to build relationships, have a positive outlook and a willingness to try different approaches is essential. You will be well supported by the SENDCO and class teacher to facilitate high quality, independent learning and help all pupils achieve their very best. Recent experience as a Teaching/Learning Support Assistant, in particular the planning and delivering of individual and group interventions is desirable.

We offer opportunities for the successful candidate to earn extra salary by working in our wrap around care facility each morning and afternoon.  Breakfast club starts at 7.30am and after school club runs from 3.15pm to 6.00pm.  You can also apply to work in our holiday play club during all the school holidays.  So lots of scope for you here at Bishops Down! Salary:  KR3 - £19,293 per annum (this is the full time equivalent) actually gross will be approx. £13,200 pa. The contract will be fixed term until 31st August 2023 when the position will be reviewed.

The ideal candidate should: 

  • Have high aspirations and expectations of children and yourself.
  • Be passionate about providing all children with the opportunity to succeed.
  • Be committed to improving standards and raising achievement.
  • Have at least NVQ2 (or equivalent) and / or GCSE Maths & English (at grade C or above)
  • Be an effective communicator and good team player.
  • Ability to work with children with additional needs including children who have a physical disability / medical needs and are happy to support personal care
  • A great sense of humour!

Information about the school

Bishops Down Primary and Nursery School is an inclusive, non-denominational school working in partnership with the Tunbridge Wells Primary Schools Collaborative Trust. The school was built in 1967 and is situated on the western edge of Tunbridge Wells in a leafy and pleasant residential area.

The school site is beautiful, elevated and fringed with green playing fields and woods. A fragrant quiet garden, pond and wooden structures in the grounds offer opportunities for happy playtimes.

We have just under 230 pupils in the primary and nursery classes. We also have a designation for children with physical disabilities and complex medical needs who are all included in mainstream.

We run Wrap Around Care at the beginning of the day and after school for our school and nursery children and during the holidays we run a Holiday Club for all children in the community.
