This is an exceptional opportunity to join the highly successful team at First Leap Nursery. We are looking for experienced and inspirational teacher to lead the specialist observation and assessment nursery for Thanet, based at Foreland Fields School from September 2023.

As well as overseeing the day to day running of the nursery, the successful candidate will be expected to work in partnership with parents and carers, local mainstream nurseries, inclusion forums (LIFT), STLS, the local authority and NHS therapists, to ensure that all necessary observations and evidence are co-ordinated for statutory assessment purposes. They will also be responsible for leading the necessary outreach to ensure a smooth transition for all pupils into their Year R provision.

  • A good understanding of current national, statutory and curriculum requirements, particularly the EYFS and the statutory assessment process for EHCPs.
  • The capability to deliver consistently good or better lessons.
  • Knowledge of teaching pupils with special educational needs in either a mainstream or specialist setting
  • The skill to differentiate their approach for pupils of all abilities
  • The ability to work well as a member of a team and have excellent interpersonal skills with children, parents, professionals and other adults
  • The ability to write clear and accurate reports about pupil attainment, progress and needs.

Information about the school

Foreland Fields School is a Day Special School for pupils with Profound, Severe and Complex Needs (PSCN), many of whom also have Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

We provide for 200+ pupils aged 3-19 in five departments, Nursery, Infants, Juniors (KS2) Secondary (KS3) and KS4/6th Form. In addition, we have satellite classes at Garlinge Primary School, Hartsdown Academy and East Kent College.
